I can see the belief in the Son of God being born of a virgin (Mary being a virgin before His conception and during her pregnancy.
But after her marriage to Joseph and Jesus's birth what would be the purpose in her perpetual virginity and not having typical husband and wife sexual relations with Joseph? By no stretch of the imagination would that have been sinful.

Well I doubt that Joseph would've stayed with Mary if she remained a virgin for the rest of her life.

"I can so see a virgin totally getting pregnant by god, but a man and a woman sleeping together without having sex? ABSURD!"

The topic was why would Mary need to remain a virgin her entire life. I'm not getting into faith when it comes to if Jesus came to be via a virgin.

The belief is probably a big factor in the ridiculous attitudes people have towards sex. It's seen as a good, beneficial or worthwhile symbolic thing that Mary was a virgin.
If Mary had gotten pregnant with Jesus after a big orgy where she had sex with 42 guys, we'd probably have a very different world now.

Ron Hubbard can make some crazy nonsense about past lives and aliens happen, I'm sure we can make this pro-sex version of Christianity happen.

Jewish people do not even mention the Name Of God!!!!

That's harsh.
I don't understand how someone's vagina could be sullied by giving birth to a perfect child.

Never the less, and despite all the dogma, logic dictates that at some point Mary's egg must have been fertilised by something more potent and biologically tangible than just 'spirit'. It takes two to tango.

If holy spirit was the means to create life in the first place, then why would a penis be involved. It's not like God boinked dirt.

We can assume that Jesus, who grew in the womb was the result of conception, hence the Almighty must have gone 'through the regular channels'. There can be no conception without fertilization. If your comparison held, then one might reasonably expect the Bible to tell us that JC appeared out of nowhere, fully formed and adult, like the first human creation supposedly did (although since you don't tell us what you believe, there is no way of knowing whether you even think this is a literal account in Genesis.)

I'm not arguing the notion of fertilization, but the regular channels is an assumption tied to no part of the creation account, so why would it be tied to Mary having sex with God? If God could create without sex involved, then there's no reason for sex to be involved this time.
If he had formed as a full grown adult, it would not allowed him the opportunity to experience life as a human making the sacrifice something the non-religious would whine about even more than they do now.
I always thought it was odd that non-religious folks will argue only a portion of a miracle. God can create life, but he can't create sperm. Mary can become pregnant with the perfect child Jesus, but only if God penis is inserted unknowingly in her....There's a phallic joke in there somewhere...

I'm not sure I buy the belief that Mary was an ever-virgin, but the Orthodox view is outlined here: www.goarch.org/-/the-ever-virginity-of-the-mother-of-godIf you're interested in learning about why they hold the position that they do, you can read it there. I don't really have a dog in this race, so I don't care to argue on their behalf.
