I’m not sure if anyone can help me but I’ll give it a try. First I’m positive this isn’t about Brian Wells featured on Netflix’s Evil Genius. I’m pretty sure what I remember happened way before the Brian Wells robbery. I was a teen when I saw this and I’m 42 now. I don’t remember much sorry about that. I’m thinking I saw this on Unsolved Mysteries or maybe even America’s Most Wanted.
A man had robbed a bank, dropped the money off somewhere and walks to a phone booth where he calls the police. He sounds very calm and then according to the police he was sitting calmly on a bench near the phone booth waiting for them to come get him. He is wearing a bomb and says he’s scared which is why he apppears so calm. He doesn’t want to set it off. It’s soon discovered the bomb is fake. He’s surprised because he thought it was real. He didn’t die.
That’s all I remember. I’ve been talking to my husband about this since he watched Evil Genius because he was certain I was talking about it. It’s not because the man I remember didn’t die. He wasn’t found guilty either. I don’t remember exactly what he did with the money I’m pretty sure he had dropped it off somewhere and he was actually instructed to call the police to help him out of the bomb. I actually now remember the police suspecting all of his was to distract the police from the actual criminals who picked up the money and ran.
So that’s it. Maybe someone can help. I always felt sorry this man and anytime I hear of a bank robbery I remember him. Thanks in advance. Funny how I can remember things like this but can’t remember why I walk into the next room.
