Keiynan Lonsdale's take on Wally West -- the speedster sometimes known as Kid Flash -- will leave DC's Legends of Tomorrow. The CW has confirmed both his appearance in the season five premiere of The Flash, and the actor's subsequent departure from Legends. Note: A previous version of this story reported that Lonsdale would appear in the Legends of Tomorrow premiere rather than The Flash. We apologize for the error. Nothing in the statement ruled out the possibility of Wally returning down the line, but Lonsdale will no longer be a series regular on the show. ComicBook.com has heard, independent of official sources, that Lonsdale will not play a major role on The Flash this season either. While it is plausible that the premiere could get rid of Wally in a spectacular of violent way -- think Hourman (Patrick J. Adams) at the start of season two -- it seems more likely that producers will leave an open path to the character returning should the story call for it. While a series regular in the back half of season three, Lonsdale did not really spend enough time on Legends to fully break away from being thought of as primarily a Flash character, which may be another reason that Legends would not kill his character. “When his character stepped away from Flash to go on walkabout, after being dumped and feeling somewhat estranged from his family and team, we knew that Wally West would fit in perfectly on Legends,” said executive producer Phil Klemmer when Lonsdale joined the show. “After all, our show is about a collection of unlikely heroes who all began their journeys questioning who they are and where they belong — only to find those answers while traveling through time and having wacky adventures. So now, Wally West is not only back in the company of old friends from the Arrowverse, he’s fighting alongside a former enemy and career arsonist Mick Rory/Dom Purcell. By the end of this season, Wally will learn that the Legends have a different definition of what it means to be a hero.” comicbook.com/dc/2018/06/05/keiynan-lonsdale-to-leave-legends-of-tomorrow-after-the-season-4/

Well that's strange. He was signed on as a regular late in the show, did nothing, and is now out of it.

Sadly, this is par the course for these shows. They have no idea what to do with a character, so they don't use them, and then decide to drop them.

WTF? Didn't he just join? Is that how poorly they treat the actors on this show?

Yes it is. Why wait around for the Arrowverse to use you when you get get work elsewhere?

Wow. I am surprised he is going hardball. A lot of actors this early in their careers usually don't turn down full time roles in TV shows like he was going to have in 'DC's Legends of Tomorrow' and I wonder if this means they will replace him with Jessie Quick. They might as well 'cause they have the same powers and the actress said in an interview recently she loved playing the character and was always excited to appear in the shows. It sounds like she would be the perfect fit but they should change that awful costume and make her wear a blonde wig when she is in costume. To add on to your thread here is the reason why Kaiynan is leaving. My thoughts. Keiynan said he left because of changes in his life, perspective etc. And we did notice his role in the Flash was reduced. But why did he sign a contract to be a regular on LOT if he wants to move on to other things? To quote LOT exec Phil Klemmar again: “When his character stepped away from Flash to go on walkabout, after being dumped and feeling somewhat estranged from his family and team, we knew that Wally West would fit in perfectly on Legends,” said executive producer Phil Klemmer when Lonsdale joined the show. “After all, our show is about a collection of unlikely heroes who all began their journeys questioning who they are and where they belong — only to find those answers while traveling through time and having wacky adventures. By the end of this season, Wally will learn that the Legends have a different definition of what it means to be a hero.” It's clear they signed Keiynan because he's a fit. He also said Wally learns lessons at the end of season 3, i.e. they have plans for the character for the next season so they signed him for a longer period. You can't just walk out on a contract because you suddenly have a different view of life as it would affect the show's storyline. But that's exactly what they're doing. Anyway let's see how they'll write him off.

Wouldn't be surprised if there was some other factor, like the writers or show runners changing their minds. Watching the episodes of Legends he was in, I couldn't help but think that his powers were only going to get in the way, because he would either need to be taken out of a situation where they would negate the urgency of the threat or use his powers in stupid ways; and that's exactly what happened. I mean look at that ridiculous episode with Elvis and the Death Totem; they identified it was on Elvis' guitar, so Wally go grabs it, while the "legends" stood around with their thumbs up their ass thinking of some cartoonish way of getting it; then getting butthurt when returned and more or less completed the mission. They genuinely wanted him to slow down for "reasons".
When I first read the subject for this thread, my assumption was that he was let go rather than him choosing to walk away; because I figured the writers realized they didn't know how to actually use him and still have stuff for the rest of the team to do. The reasons Keiynan gave may be legitimate, or it's just their way of having everybody save face and leave the door open to use him when they need or want him. And considering the revolving door of actors that have come and gone specifically from Legends, I think this lends itself more to a pattern of the production than anything else. Look no further than Rip or Snart.

Anyway let's see how they'll write him off. You’re welcome hardball and thanks for sharing that too. I haven’t gotten around to replying to your other posts on the ‘Stephen King’ thread yet but I wanted to let you know I have seen them and will be writing on the ‘New and Upcoming’ section when I am on next. I am still surprised over Keiynan’s decision to leave the show when they upgraded him to Series Regular on ‘DCs Legends of Tomorrow’ and I don’t think the writers would have seen that one coming either when they added him into the show and made him part of the team. They did decrease his role in ‘The Flash’ and I wrote on here a few times it looked dumb not having him in the show when Barry was in prison ‘cause that was the time Team Flash needed him the most but perhaps they were worried about him overshadowing Barry. Still it just looked dumb that he wasn't there when they had him there right before they went to the break and there wasn't a single mention of what happened to him until he turned up in 'DC's Legends of Tomorrow.'
It is going to be interesting to see how they write Wally out of it after he become a member of the team but I think they will have a replacement lined up and Jessie Quick is going to be the one who will take his spot ‘cause she ticks all the boxes they need for a speedster but maybe they might surprise us and go with somebody entirely different. Either way, I am pretty sure he will be replaced with another superhero.

Y'know, it's funny you mention Stephen King as I just finished watching 11.22.63, based on his book of the same name. Really good show and I highly recommend it to anyone.
Now I'm going to go out and read the book.

Now I'm going to go out and read the book. I haven't watched that yet. I own and have read the novel and I also own the miniseries on DVD but we haven't gotten around to watching it. It is nice to hear it is good and I can't remember if I told you about his other upcoming show, 'Castle Rock' but one thing sites were talking about before was a lot of actors who were in previous Stephen King adaptions are going to appear in it and Stephen King might be in it too.

I think we've talked about Castle Rock before. I'm really looking forward to it. Have you seen all the trailers?
So as a non-American how did you feel about a novel just awash in American history? Because we are still obsessed with JFK and his assassination and how this country might be better if he hadn't died so young.
I think it's interesting that King showed things could have been much worse if the assassination had failed.
