Let me say imo the new Star Wars films with the female lead don't work for me, because I don't like the fact that they have a female lead in them. If you are a female I ask you: Does me saying that make me either sexist , and or a jerk for saying that. Or is it just my preference for Star Wars movies that I like or don't like?
The reason I ask is because I don't know what they consider sexist, or just a preference for what kind of films I like.
And the main reason why I dislike it I suppose is because i'm so used to having a male protagonist in star wars, so when they go ahead and do the opposite gender as the protagonist, i'm not used to it so I don't like it. I usually like things that I am used to , i'm just that way ok.
Would you be offended(if you are a female), if a person said, that they don't like it cuz it has a female hero in it? If you're a guy you can respond to this question as well though.
And no I don't have a problem with it in alien ,aliens, the terminator, before someone asks about that ok. Lol.

Nah, it just means that you can't relate to a female hero, like a lot of males. Perfectly normal.

Well, at least you're honest about your limitations. I don't consider you a jerk or sexist, based simply on this; but I do know if you and I were ever to meet at an SF convention (highly unlikely, I'd say), I might tell you to your face that you're missing a lot because of automatically not liking female leads in SW movies. Of course, your viewpoint on this matter also means that you and I might not get along very well...but then, I am happily married to a man who has no problem whatsoever with female leads in SW movies (in fact, I believe he finds Daisy Ridley, for example, quite cute ), so I think I'll do fine even without your approval, Joe.

Touché. I don’t have a problem with it though, just attempting a possible explanation as to why most people do.

Ok I'm getting the impression that females are offended by my opinion, so therefore i'll never bring it up in public... I don't want to get beaten up.

How did you feel about Ripley being the hero in Alien and Aliens? I feel good about it, because they were stronger films lol. And the fact that they had a female in it made the movies much stronger overall(I think). I don't care what the gender is as long as it's a well made film. Therefore, and I hate to say it but: I was actually wrong before though, it's not that the lead in SW is female that I have problems with, it's the new star wars films in general that I have a problem with, because I generally dislike them. But that's just my opinion on them.

Ripley isn’t some masculine superhero who’s good at everything and delivers obnoxious lines while beating the hell of out heavily muscled men twice her size. Ripley is first and foremost a survivor, and along with the rest of that movie’s cast she is introduced as a completely normal person — just another member of a crew making a living by hauling ore, spending months in a worn, lived-in ship, bitching about bonuses and the crappy food. She has weaknesses. She’s not fearless. Yet despite that, she survives. I don’t mind Rey in the new SW so much, and Daisy Ridley does a good job, but they’ve made her character amazing at everything, with no flaws or personality quirks. Even Luke got his ass handed to him and lost a hand to Vader before he finally gained full control of his powers, and he had the benefit of Obi Wan and Yoda setting him in the right path. By contrast, right off the bat Rey is Super Jedi who can overpower Darth Emo the very first time she uses the Force, with no instruction. Then she duels and defeats Darth Emo the very first time she swings a lightsaber. Even that didn’t bother me enough to ruin the franchise. But the second shit festival, The Last Jedi, was over the top ridiculous with its heavy-handed “men screw shit up, women are perfect” dumbassery, its pink-haired admirals whose strategies boil down to “get everyone killed,” and Luke portrayed as a dramatic, petulant little twat. Could they have been any more ham-fisted and risible?
