Around 1988 I remember seeing promos for the movies Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama and American Gothic on Saturday morning on network TV. They were like reviews of the movies.
I always thought it was a film review segment from Hey Vern, It's Ernest (maybe an actor from that show was doing the reviews) but turns out they were not. It would have been weird to have reviews for R rated cult films on a children's show. But it's weird that these aired on Saturday mornings at all.
I can't find anything about it on the internet.
I'd love to know what the hell that I watched.

I would to, that'd never fly today. Then again don't they show an edited version of The Room on Cartoon Network or something?

The Room has been aired on Cartoon Network's late night Adult Swim which is programming absolutely not intended for kids.

Are you sure you weren't seeing Commander USA on the USA Network? Definitely cannot be Joe Bob Briggs. I think 1988 was too early for him.

i am with loofa on this. although i never knew any of these shows/things existed [thanks dad for schlepping us all to Pergament every fucking Saturday!] this sounds like this is the Saturday afternoon movie showcase whatever. i looked at the commander usa site on Wikipedia and he went from 1985 to 1989.
and although i can't find the movie sorority babes ... bowlorama movie within the list given, a majority of the movies shown were rated r, horror based and or your average run of the mill 80's 'soft core porn -- [inseminoid]'
it is a good chance this 'show' showcased this movie.
this was also a USA 'show' so that might explain them showing rated r things... and holy shit the guy just died!

I don't think that we even had cable at the time, so definitely not USA network.

They were short reviews, not the entire movies.
We didn't have cable at the time. This was Saturday morning broadcast TV.

If there were promos or reviews for these movies that aired on Saturday mornings then maybe somebody else remembers them, or there is a record of this happening that can be found somewhere. I'm not even sure what I watched. They were like promos, but in the form of a brief review segment. For years I thought it was Hey Vern, It's Ernest which also aired in 1988.

i understand but i question the fact that any tv station would air something like this during a Saturday morning or so that was aimed for kids. this was before everything and its mother was rated but when you would go to the movie theater and watch Aladdin you would not expect to see a promo for BASIC INSTINCT or ALIEN 3. they would gear previews for 'age appropriate' new films to the rating of the main feature. [lets say it was hey vern...] was the promo for the movies within the show or was it in commercial form?
