"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it."

Then it's everyone being selfish when they let the poor starve on the streets, and not just putting the failings of western culture onto the followers of a specific deity or two. It also means that anyone can make a difference, and they don't need to sit around and wait for the mouthpiece of a certain god to tell them to pull their finger out and try to make the world a better place.

I would argue that it's impossible to have a truly Christian nation (if we're defining Christian as Christlike, which is how the term was originally used).

Wreaking, not reeking. The CIA wreaks. Your poetry reeks.

The real right will put the fear of God into people first, then maybe help them in other ways, although fearing god is probably enough.

What do you mean nice try from the fake right to make the left appear foolish? And when is your proof of ID going to get published?? Doesn't even need to be a reputable peer review journal. Even a pretend journal run by christians would get the word out and change the world! Been waiting for ages now.

The fake right doesn't exactly need to lie about that. I just don't believe the fake right should make a big deal pretending to have an answer. After the fake right is exposed for the fake that it is. The world is changing for the better very slowly. It would probably do that anyway eventually considering how government is failing to replace religion.

It's not a Christian nation.
That wouldn't be possible.

It's not a Christian nation. That wouldn't be possible. America has always been a Christian nation. Just ask the Founding Fathers.

America has never been a Christian Nation. You've not been paying attention. I have. The US is a nation of Christians. But thats it. Its constitution is based on the Magna Carta, its legal system based on English Common Law. And both England and the US owe far more tot he Roman Empire than the Bible.

Neither the US nor the UK destroyed Carthage either.
