a brutal and tragic film that is definitely very influential. GEOFFERY LEWIS plays a character that could walk straight into THE DEVIL'S REJECTS. i like these 70s movies that entertains with all the nudity and wild characters but there is also a lot of interesting social commentary. so much better than the sanctimonious crap dished out by hollywood these days.
(7/10)

You really can't top the 70's for gritty, greasy action-drama movies, with some genuine social commentary thrown in. I'd like to rewatch this since I think I saw it on TBS in the 90's, with many commercial interruptions, and also the sequel, Return to Macon County (1975).

The quality on Blu Ray is a revelation.

(7/10) Dude, you want to get your hands on PRIME CUT (1972), one of the finest, hardest crime thrillers of the seventies. i ahve watched it.
It has one of the most original title sequences that would offend the hell out of the Hindutva brigade. Characters so dirty that you would feel like a hot shower after the film gets over. Dialogs so filthy that you would never show it to your parents. Two of the best choreographed and located action pieces you would ever watch. An interesting score by Lalo Schifrin that is both rollicking and light hearted.
It has Lee Marvin playing a Mickey who is part Travis Bickle and part Lee Marvin. Gene Hackman as a true American who would easily feel at home with The Devil's Rejects. Gregory Walcott who could spar with Mike Mazurki and Danny Trejo. Sissy Spacek who is almost as adorable as Iris (from Taxidriver).
It takes place in rural Kansas which could be seedier than any city in America. It has a grueling brawl between a threshing machine and a car (comparable to any action sequence in Christine (1983) or the Terminator movies). It provides commentary on American culture through extensive footage from a rural fair. Though it is a raw display of American machismo and power, it also shows what monsters inhabit this earth.
