Pros - Characters acting believably under a really shitty situation. The atmosphere of dread that permeates everything. We have characters named Mac and Windows. The make-up and mechanical effects still look pretty great. Ennio Morricone's music.
Cons - Don't have much to complain about. It works quite well.

Pros: The sense of dread and isolation in a freezing atmosphere. Rob Bottin's amazing makeup effects that still holds up very well. My favorite is the dog kennel scene, which I thought was quite frightening. Realistic characters, as opposed to cardboard characters. Great performances all around. Ambiguous ending.
Cons: That fact that it was so underrated when first released in theaters, and was pretty much ghettoized by a lot of critics. But at least it much more appreciated now.

Pros:
- Bleak and nihilistic atmosphere. - The creature effects are amazing. - Ending it on a dark note.
Cons:
- the cast is fairly interchangeable aside from exceptions like Kurt Russell and Keith David. - the dogs being killed. - It is a downer of a movie.

The Norris thing is the peak of the film, after that the thing outs arent so cool.
The characters are too irritated with each other. They are living in a place like that for months and months and yet we see Mac gets pissed off at a computer and Windows has a short temper about sending messages.
Mac Windows

Honestly it's a tough movie for me to think of anything negative to say about.

Pros - The entire cast is fantastic.
The creepy and grim score.
Well-shot for the paranoia and dark nature of the movie.
Incredible visual effects for the gore that still holds up today.
Excellent pacing.
Cons - Nothing.

Since I agree with everything you said, regarding the pros, I can't add anything. But for the cons I will say - there aren't any.

Pros: -Tremendous special effects work. -Believable characters and acting. -The atmosphere and setting. Cons: -Animal abuse. I was disturbed by the dogs being tormented in that scene. I’ve always wondered how people can stomach people being ripped apart in horrid ways and be just fine but get disturbed by an animal dying.

I think it's because it's abnormal seeing an animal getting killed. It's basically animal abuse. Same can be said if a child gets killed.

I’m trying to think of Cons...there’s so many pros they’re hardly worth mentioning.
Con...the Blair timeline can be a bit confusing. I’ve always tried to watch and rewatch and pay attention to when I think certain character would have been assimilated. But Blair is always a little tricky to me. Also, when they’re messing with the burnt Thing early in the film how aren’t they all contaminated? They’re elbow deep in that crap.
So really my cons are reaching. This is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Animals and children generally portray a higher level of innocence. Possibly due to their lack of control over the situation compared to an adult human. But also because they’re cuter to look at.

Pros:
Maybe the best use of sound in any horror movie, best sound and best score
Great iconic situations and confrontations, especially the back and forth between the captain and the doctor over the key
Characters well acted and done. "
Cons: Too much of the same Hollywood cliché of hate, such as killing off any character you can relate to as soon as they can, in short the usual Hollywood formula of alienating the audience
Lack of atmosphere that was so great in the Arness movie
Characters poorly written, even if the actors and director did well with them
Not credible characters in incredible circumstances. Best example is Windows being harassed and accused constantly by one character and then when he finds that character is a thing, he hesitates way too long and gets killed by it. No way to buy that from a character who was quickest to run for a gun earlier.
Because of all this and more, too "contrived" to fit into usual Hollywood formula
Overall 5/10. Just too predictable Hollywood formula, but some good points

Pros: pretty well paced paranoia movie is a real downer - there's no way to kill The Thing and the last two characters probably aren't getting out alive one of the best open endings in movie history that distinctive photography that's the hallmark of a Carpenter/Cundey film Great effects - still looks fake A.S. but they can get away with it, being that it's an alien organism Cons: way too many character names ending in s. Russell sleepwalks through the first half what are all the guns for - killer penguins? constant goofs about Antarctica in winter. Nobody's going outside bare-headed if that were real.
