The sequels to the 1968 film (especially Escape onward) fiddled with the story immediately. How did Cornelius know about humans having cats and dogs as pets? In the 1968 film he scoffed at the idea that humans could read and write.
Anyway as for series that went on after a remake, one in particular comes to mind. maybe you have heard of it.
It's a little ol thing called
GODZILLA!!!

The only one I can think of at the moment is the George Romero Dead series. You had remakes of Night and Dawn in 1990 and 2004 respectively and then Romero's actual series continued on with "Land of the Dead" in 2005.Absolutely. Yes. Halloween (2018 film) picks up forty years after the events of the original film... and has nothing to do with Rob Zombie's "Halloween" films. Yes, I definitely agree with both of those... The story line of original FIVE "Planet Of Apes" films, has never been revisited in the any of the newer movies. I don't know about that TV Show they did forty years ago, though. I never watched that. Has the original story line been revisited in the last few years? I only remember seeing a couple of the remakes that were done about 10 years ago... but as I recall, they had nothing to do with the original story line. I haven't seen the most recent one. I remember they made a remake of the first film... But I haven't seen any of the movies since... Are they part of the original storyline, or just movies with the name "Amityville" on them? Actually, I think most of the original "sequels" were their own movies anyway... with parts of the old house being the center of their own movie. (Lamp, Mirrors, Dollhouse...) Maybe it doesn't matter...

TCSM 2 - kind of a comedy remake of the original and kind of a sequel. TCSM 3 - basically a remake of the original but pretends to be a sequel. Next Generation - again, it's basically just a remake The remake - the first one that actually sells itself as a remake The Beginning - direct prequel to the remake Texas Chainsaw 3D - direct sequel to the original Leatherface - a made up backstory for Leatherface

I just checked my DVD collection... I remembered I have the two "R. Lee Ermey" remake films... But, I completely forgot that I have and have seen "Texas Chainsaw 3D"... I'll have to watch that one again soon! I have not seen, and don't have on DVD, "Leatherface" (2017)... as of yet. "Halloween" is very big mess too! And now we are dumping the continuity of "H20"... and going with "H40"? Interestingly with all these sequels, continuations, reboots, and remakes... It's hard to keep track of all the movies in some of these franchises.

I don't think that is technically connected to any of the films and is just a stand-alone Leatherface origin story.

Here's a short interesting read, involving some of the more popular franchises, some of which has been discussed already:

Didn't this happen with James Bond when Sean Connery made a film during the Roger Moore era?

Whether the remake succeeds or fails, the series will go on anyway since there's money to be made.

Didn't this happen with James Bond when Sean Connery made a film during the Roger Moore era? I guess in the spirit of this discussion, that can qualify... But Officially, No. "Never Say Never Again" was not part of the official series of films, made by EON Productions... And so the EON Productions films were not stopped being made... in order to make "Never Say Never Again"... and were not "restarted" again after that movie. EON Productions just kept making their official Bond films, while the unofficial "Never Say Never Again" film was made by someone else. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Never_Say_Never_Again
