This is normal cake (such as chocolate and/or fudge and/or ice cream with or without frosting) and normal pie ((with either fruit (rhubarb) or ice cream such as chocolate or mint, etc...)) NOT with meat and such. Pie for me!

pie, n. An advance agent of the reaper whose name is indigestion. Cold pie was highly esteemed by the remains. - The Reverend Dr Mucker, in a funeral sermon over a British nobleman.
Cold pie is a detestable, American comestible. That's why I'm done, or undone- so far from that dear London. -From the headstone of a British Nobleman in Kalamazoo -Ambrose Bierce

Cake. Don't really care for pie crust, and pie often has a load of butter.
But none of that cheesecake.

I'm a professional baker, so I don't mind making either one. However, for my birthday every year, my oldest brother makes my dessert-peanut butter pie.

Now cakes, cakes are good. Cakes are delicious. Cakes are celebratory. Cakes are used to mark festivities, happy moments in life, birthdays and weddings, beautiful mornings and romantic nights, love, because cakes are the best. They don’t need to sit in a window sill, away from you, they sit in the fridge, a place that is also synonymous with happiness. You can tell that cakes are much better than pies by their uses in language. A pie, as insinuated by The Rock during his time in the WWF/WWE, referenced the female genitalia. Crude and distasteful once again. “As American as Apple pie” refers to things that are typically American, which should be a good thing, until you see that blue jeans, the most boring of jeans, is another example. In trying to be nationalistic, it reveals itself to be boring. There’s “eat humble pie” which is spiteful, “easy as pie” which is arrogant, “cutie pie” which is demeaning, and “pie in the sky” which is discouraging. Pie is usually reserved for bad things. Read many more reasons why Pies suck and Cakes rocks!

Depends on the cake and pie in question, as well as some situational factors, but normally cake for me.
