First of all, the obvious is that Wonder Woman was created to be about a female heroin and Ghostbusters wasn't conceived as an all female group. But, that isn't why "Ghostbusters: Answer the Call" didn't work.
A) All men are bad.
In the film, they paint men as either evil (the villain), idiots (The receptionist, and mayor), or pseudo-intellectuals that think they know it all but have no insight on what is really going on (scientists, professors, etc)
In the ORIGINAL 'Ghostbusters' (1984) there was more diversity. The black male character (Winston) wasn't written as a stereotypical loud ghetto black male, he was actually the only one with common sense and presented an upstanding guy with good work ethic. The female receptionist was underpaid and undervalued. They show how INTELLIGENT she is when she talks to Egon about reading, and how she has 'quit better jobs than this'. The joke is shes too qualified to just answer phones. Dana is a female who is independent, strong willed, attractive but has a brain. Her relationship with Venkman is organic. She doesn't even like him at first, but they become attracted to one another naturally. She isn't forced in a relationship, and she isn't some damsel that needs a man to take care of her, she's got a nice job, with an apartment, and making it on her own. The three scientists, Ray, Venkman, and Egon are very different. One is the classic scientist experimenting on everything, one is the professor type who knows all the terminology and history, and the other is the slacker who goofs off, but knows his stuff. The men and women are portrayed in a variety of ways. The villain is an asexual being, not a female.
B) The Plot.
In the film these women aren't taken seriously and laughed at by scholars. They are trying to prove the existence of ghosts and paranormal activity. I honestly cannot even remember the villain's plot as I have only seen it once to be honest.
In the ORIGINAL the plot is actually funny. Three scientists who don't produce anything for the university are kicked out and start a business scheming people. They aren't trying to prove anything. The joke about getting a third mortgage on their home, etc... The first 45 minutes of the original Ghostbusters may be the best collaborative comedy I've ever seen. They aren't trying to get justified in their research, they aren't victims of sexism or whatever. They are just three guys, down and out on their luck who you root for and get lucky. They save the city at the end by chance, they aren't striving to be heroes, they just need a paycheck.
C) The Humor.
In this film, the humor is forced and I can't honestly remember any other line than maybe when the ghost throws up on Kristen Wiig. She says something about it being in all her cracks. Kate McKinnon was in a different movie altogether, I honestly don't know what that was about. And Leslie Jones is just being ghetto-fabulous Leslie Jones. No acting required.
The original Ghostbusters is one of the funniest films ever made. The balance between humor and sci-fi action was seamless. The special effects aren't the best, but it's a comedy and so well acted/written it doesn't matter. It still holds up today. The new one had so much cartoony CGi, it felt like the final 15 minutes was a Pixar film. That isn't what Ghostbusters is about.
WONDER WOMAN:
It works as it empowers women, but the men are contributors. It's about being equals and standing side by side to work together. Steve Trevor was even more heroic because he didn't have super powers. He was a man doing what he thought was right to save the world, and he INSPIRED Diana, and in turn, she used his sacrifice to Inspire the world.
They didn't make Steve a bumbling idiot that needed Diana to show him how superior women are to men.
