Which do you prefer to use for your Mac? I use Wi-Fi, BUT an Ethernet connection IS faster.

It should be obvious given the following info...
-Ethernet connection (i.e. wired connection) ; it's reliable and fast. it's better than wireless across the board outside of wireless connection's convenience.
-WiFi (i.e. wireless connection) ; outside of the convenience of a wireless connection it's clearly worse than a wired connection. no one would debate this.
so with a desktop computer, which is what I largely use... naturally I use a wired connection due to speed/reliability. but with a laptop, since it's portable, people will generally use a wireless connection even though I do connect it to my wired connection once in a while for certain things like using Clonezilla if I need to image the laptop's hard drive and store a image of it on my main computer using the samba share connection.

Ethernet simply because it's solid.
I had way too many problems with people and their wireless devices trying to leech off of my connection where I used to live, even with it being secured. I went wired a while back to eliminate the problem.
WiFi is good for tablets/phones/laptops but not a desktop PC. If you're a hardcore gamer or download large files, you should definitely use Ethernet.

UtpeI wonder if your router was crap or needed a firmware update etc. there is a chance you can install custom firmware to it like DD-WRT etc depending on what model of router you got and it's generally considered better than the stock firmware you get with it. also, you want to use WPA2+AES for your general wireless connections as it's more secure. WEP can be easily hacked from what I read years ago. I got custom firmware on my router (ASUS WL-520GU)... Tomato firmware by Toastman. my router is of the older type though but it's works well enough for me. but if you do decide to install custom firmware to your router make sure you follow the proper precautions with hard-resets before installing the firmware and then after it's up and running to guarantee no weird glitches turn up. p.s. but yeah, a wired connection is always superior to a wireless connection in general. only advantage of wireless, is convenience (as you already know) because no wires are required. but for a desktop, which is my computer of choice, wired makes far more sense.
