I am yet, as of following Baseball now for the best part of 25 years, still to hear a genuinely good reason as to why the DH exists. And, I might add, in the era of middle relievers, 8th and 9th inning specialists, I see even less of a need for a DH if fatiguing or injuring a pitcher whilst he has an at bat is the best reason for a DH. For one it gives each team better offensive opportunities. So does corked bats and PED’s. Maybe we should allow them too.

because they’re stupid questions. It’s not how the game was historically played. The dh was an add-on. Why should we do the more traditional, historical thing? Because while sports should evolve and tweak what isn’t working, they shouldn’t fundamentally change. The DH would be akin to the NFL allowing sacks to be made by two hand touch. Everybody else gets tackled, but these guys over here have different rules.

But there really aren't just 2 positions of offence/batter and defence/fielder: the third is pitcher. The game has become fundamentally flawed in the last century+ by expecting the pitcher to have 3 jobs and everyone else 2. If pitchers are expected to hit then other positions should be expected to pitch. Shorten the 25 man roster forcing teams to only dress players that can hit, field AND pitch.

But they’re athletes, right? It’s not like the Yankees are sending Betty White and Britney Spears out there every fifth day. Part of the problem is that pitchers are babied now to a ridiculous extent.

I'm pretty sure all of the old timers that bitch about the DH were also against the forward pass and the shot clock.

Put it to a vote of all the NL clubs and let the majority decide it. The Commissioner should not impose his will against the league's interests.

I grew up watching American League baseball so I'd be fine with it.

The right fielder or shortstop should be ready and able to pitch too. A starting pitcher should be able to be a team's third baseman on non-pitching days.
