It's made from Riesling grapes that have been left on the vine a little longer than normal, so the flavors are more intense and full bodied than your regular Riesling wines. The stuff is so delicious it's addictive:

Zolotoy: I spent time in Germany where I learned a lot about their wines. Obviously, Riesling is the grape of choice for fine German wines. There s a pecking order to their quality, starting with Tafelwein (common table wine)Kabinett, Spatlese, Auslese, Beerenauslese and finally, Trockenbeerenauslese. The last two categories can and usually are very expensive. And there is also an oddity called Eiswein (Ice wine) which is made when the Riesling grapes freeze on the vine locking in an incredibly lush natural sugar. And lastly, (although this may no longer be true) when I was in Germany in the early 1970s, Riesling wine from the Rhein River valley came in brown glass bottles, and Riesling wine from the Mosel River valley came in green glass bottles. I have been a wine enthusiast for most of my life.
