The referee loves blowing his whistle. It doesn't seem to be making much difference though.

What do yees think of McCoist as a co-commentator? I think he's OK. A lot better than Lawrenson on the other side.

That was a pretty uninspiring, but not horrid, game. Sweden are probably a tad better than they were expected to be. McCoist is quite tolerable. The ex-pro sidekicks are generally a trial, I find, and he's definitely one of the better ones.

The only way this group gets exciting is if Mexico seomehow stub their toe against Sweden. South Korea aren’t beating anyone, and I can’t see Sweden holding Germany out for 90 minutes. From here though, Mexico should be looking at 9 points, and Germany mentally preparing for a second round clash with Brazil.

Only Russia, Spain and CR7 are scoring goals (plural). Luckily, no 0-0 draws so far. Lots of penalties, it seems and VAR working overtime

A round-of-16 match that will be very exciting for neutrals but will fill fans of both teams with dread! Even with the memory of that 7-1 win from four years ago still fresh, I can't imagine that there are many German fans who will be confident about facing Brazil so soon.

Thought I'd start a thread. 1-0 for Sweden I predict
So what is the verdict on the VAR decision to award the penalty to Sweden? Clear-cut or debatable?

Clear cut. Surprised it wasn’t given in the first instance. The Swede clearly won the ball, and had not one, but both legs scythed from under him. The Korean was absolutely nowhere near the ball.

Clear cut. Surprised the ref didn't award a penalty straight away as he had a great view of the foul.
