Pros - Some of Tarantino's best writing. The opening scene and later in the French bar are great examples of escalating tension. The opening scene takes its inspiration very much from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Brad Pitt's attempt at an Italian accent. "Marcel... burn it down."
Cons - Not really sure what works against its favor. In your humble narrator's opinion, I'd hold this as Tarantino's best work.

Cons - The entire movie is historically inaccurate bullshit What were you expecting upon your initial viewing? I wanted a fictional story set during WWII. What I got was a bizarre fictional story set in some fictional universe that uses names of real figures from history.

His best movie, which is saying something. The inn scene and the opening scene are two of the most tense scenes I have ever seen. The dialogue in this movie is second to none.

Pros: Pure Tarantino filmmaking at its finest. Superb writing. The Inglourious Basterds chapter itself; entertainment gold! Outstanding performances by Christoph Waltz and Brad Pitt. Many great twists and turns.
Cons: Can't think of a single con.

Cons: The bullshit ending in the cinema, messing up what was otherwise a very good movie. He fucked up Django Unchained with a ridiculous, over-the-top climax too.

That you're having a paranoid episode triggered by acute neuro-chemical trauma? Or that you're really an invincible secret agent from Mars who's the victim of an interplanetary conspiracy to make him think he's a lowly construction worker? Stop punishing yourself, Doug. You're a fine, upstanding man. You have a beautiful wife who loves you. Your whole life is ahead of you. But you've got to want to return to reality.
But seriously, what bothered you about the ending?

It just went over-the-top with the violence...I know we're talking about Tarantino here, who doesn't know the definition of subtle, but it just became so outrageously blood-filled that it became a parody and lost its effectiveness. Particularly seeing Hitler's head turned into mush...I get it, who wouldn't have loved his end to have come that way, but it just came across as more ridiculous than anything else. That's a shame too, because I truly did enjoy the first two hours of both this and Django, but those final half-hours of both just ruined any re-watch value for me.

Then only Tarantino flick that doesn't lapse into idiocy is Jackie Brown. I skipped Hateful Eight and doubt I'll see another of his films.

Pro...that opening scene is the best thingTarantino has ever done. It’s fairly well paced. Christoph Waltz as Hans Landa!
Con...based on the trailer the film seemed like it’d follow Aldo the Apaches men more than it did. I wound up enjoying Soshannas story, but Aldo and his men really did feel second fiddle throughout most of it. Also, no depth to any of Aldo’s men. Stiglitz and the Bear Jew are the only ones given any kind of personality.
