Whats peoples thoughts on this? I watched the first 2 and thought they were good and great respectively. Then I started to watch Before Midnight and had to switch it off aftrt 30 minutes because I knew the downbeat route the film was taking. After seeing it had a very high RT score and got nominated for best adapted screenplay I was shocked.
So whats the general view, is this a great trilogy?

My wife's seen them, I haven't. She says they're good films.

Midnight was my least favorite as well. Not necessarily because it was downbeat (though it was unfortunate watching their relationship crumbling), but because it felt the most like a regular movie. I still liked it, though. Easily one of the better trilogies out there, with Sunset being my favorite.

Only seen the first one, once, not long after original release. Remember it being refreshingly pleasant/charming in it's simplicity. I have all 3 on DVD so will hopefully give them a (re)watch soon.

I love this trilogy. Seeing them all at the theater on release was almost a way of looking back at your own life since the previous one. I'm a huge Ethan Hawke fan and especially love him in these.
While "Midnight" might be downbeat. . .such is life.
