Orange, then Yellow or Green, then Purple, then Red.
The purple ones tend to be smaller and are more brittle. Don't have an appreciable flavor.
But I like em all.

Raw - Green
Cooked - Yellow
They're all good, to me. But, I've never tried the brown ones, and I don't think I've ever seen purple peppers.

Red, never green. But I rarely buy any, they are not nice to the climate or the enviroment and are often sprayed with toxines. I grow my own instead, dont know what you call these, but they taste just like bell peppers. Mine taste more as I don't stress the plants, so they get more time to develope the flavour. My own, not ready yet:

It's a bit of an inside joke in my family how I like to put red bell peppers on everything. I never buy the green ones, and only buy orange or yellow if they are cheaper than the red ones on that day (which is rare).
I could be wrong about this, but my understanding is that the green bell peppers are just peppers of other colours that are not yet ripe?
*** EDIT ***
I learned on Wikipedia that bell peppers are technically a fruit, like tomatoes. I had no idea. Learn something new every day!
