only because he pushed his father out of the way of the car. srsly, did ya watch this movie at all? Uh, did you? Marty spends the bulk of the runtime trying to hook them up. Oh yeah, Marty also gave George the advice that lead to George's successful book career. "Some random dude". only because he botched the original timeline! shit! you didn't remember that, did you?

and about him knowing Ronald Reagan was an actor... there were many movies that were put on television as 'the late show' during that time. a good movie to see an example of this is [although scripted] WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE. That's not the point I was making though. He was a science geek, yet he had time to look into celebrity stuff. He even knew Reagan's first wife.

The future Marty travels back to is the same timeline he botched. From George and Lorraine's perspective, they never would have gotten together without him, and they even named their kid after him. Think, McFly, think!

If I was George, I'd be super paranoid Lorraine knew Calvin Klein a bit longer than that week... WHY? Marty was their third child... Born 12 years AFTER the dance... Which is the last time they saw Calvin "Marty" Kline.

So he was watching the news or reading celebrity stuff.

It's fun discussing the time travel of these movies. Marty returns to 1985 and the Lone Pine Mall to see himself take off to 1955. What happens when that Marty arrives back to 1985? Will this cycle continue to repeat itself? I chalk it up to alternate universes. I think wealthy family Marty comes back to a 1985 we don't know about yet. The Marty we see in 1955 is the struggling one without a music gig or a car, that stuff makes up his personality & decision making. He also sees his father as future nerd instead of future successful author. I guess parallel universes is the scientific term.

He was a science geek, yet he had time to look into celebrity stuff. He even knew Reagan's; first wife. I not sure what you are trying to argue here, but... "Science Geeks" frequently get out of their homes and go see movies at the theater, or even listen to celebrity news over the radio and on the news! Back in the 50s they even had News Reels shown at the Theaters. Newspapers & Magazines frequently discusses celebrities. And some of you must NOT have be paying attention to the movie.. Because the Movie Theater in the town square in 1955 was playing a Ronald Reagan Movie. What... Do you think Doc Brown was blind and couldn't see the Billboard Sign and the Movie Poster as he drove through town? DOC EVEN ADMITTED TO HAVING SEEN A WESTERN! Perhaps it was that one! There is NO reasonable reason why Doc Brown couldn't have known about Ronald Reagan and other celebrities at that time.

I not sure what you are trying to argue here, but... "Science Geeks" frequently get out of their homes and go see movies at the theater, or even listen to celebrity news over the radio and on the news! Except he didnt know what a dance was. He called it a rhythmic ceremonial ritual!
That suggested a distancing between him and modern culture! Yet he was keeping up on actor marriages.

It was always odd how George and Lorraine had the same guy work for them who tried to rape Lorraine many years earlier.

It was always odd how George and Lorraine had the same guy work for them who tried to rape Lorraine many years earlier. And who tried to break George's arm. Clearly Marty's family had some serious mental problems... in both timelines.

I agree with this...mostly. It still wouldn't make sense if the parents hadn't recognized how their son looks and seems exactly like "that guy" they met in high school. I know that some parents recall their old friends at one point or another. he didn’t act exactly like their son. He was a peer and was doing things their son did not do plus they would have to remember him 30 years later. Of course they could have learned about him and formed their lives around him not knowing they knew. They were acting funny when he found out he had that truck. Then why was he still named Marty, if they saw him and knew him as Marty in '55?
