There is something about this film, in which it would be considered too offensive to be released today. Or at least it wouldn't conform to the standards of movie making today.

Female lead, nearly raped by a white male redneck. That's the kind of victim movie Hollywood loves now. Ya that's the scene I was thinking of when I said this movie couldn't be made today. But there's something specific about that scene that makes this movie not able to be made today.

I would say the reason it couldn't be made today is because of the rape scene, in which: The female of the story is about to be raped but she doesn't she escapes by running away. The problem with that (in today's movie making world)is it shows female weakness against a male character(by running away).
That goes against their agenda that females and males are equal in every way. A female running away from a male goes against their agenda. So therefore they could not show a situation like in the movie ,the legend of billie jean.
