What's not to love about the man. Plus, strangely enough, he was one of the producers of David Lynch's THE ELEPHANT MAN. I say strangely because it's a film so against Brooks' type. It's quite grim but I love it. It garnered an Oscar nomination for John Hurt and featured Mel's beautiful wife, Anne Bancroft. My friends and I saw it when it first premiered and we still quote it to this day. "I am NOT an animal!"

My Favorite Year 1982 with Peter O'Toole in an Oscar nominated performance as has been matinee idol a la Errol Flynn. This was also produced by Mel Brooks' Brooksfilms. 84 Charing Cross Road 1987 with Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins was also produced by Mel Brook's Brooksfilms.
