Europe: 10 out of 14 (Iceland, Germany, Serbia and Poland missing out) South America: 4 out of 5 (only Peru dropping out) Central/North America: 1 out of 3 (Mexico) Asia: 1 out of 5 (Japan making it through) Africa: 0 out of 5
But of course when the number of participants is increased to 48, most of the new spots will go to Africa and Asia. Makes perfect sense.

Yeah, total farce.

For the first time since 1982, no African team advances from the group stage.

This format is absolutely perfect, and I can't wait for utter greed to ruin it.

48 teams is a horrible idea anyway, no matter what continent they're from.

I can sort of see the idea of giving Africa more slots, regardless of performances this WC. But Asia ? Anymore than 5 and you are scraping the bottom of the barrel. Iran, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Saudi Arabia qualified this time. The next “rung” is Syria, UAE, China and Uzbekistan. FIFA seriously want these clowns to get a start ahead of Italy, Netherlands, Slovakia, BIH, Slovenia...

Seriously, even Azerbaijan is far better than most of Asian trash. That said if the bad Asian countries were to qualify then I do like to see southeast Asian countries rather than Arab countries.

Thailand is okay, but not great. Indonesia is a basket case, and Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Philippines are all quite a significant distance behind the West Asian nations in terms of quality and development.

We all know what it's about though: getting China into every tourney and ensuring the US don't miss again. Regardless of how much money they make from this event, and US and China and that's big coin. If they could get 1 billion Indian and 300 million Indonesian eyeballs on the WC they'd be up for that too.

Our great Hockey squad beat America 24-1 in Olympics. That is still a record in International hockey to the best of my knowledge. I don't want India to be on receiving end of such an embarrassment even if it be in football.
