She is also about 13yrs his senior and looks like a hag. Jackman is not one of my favorites as an actor, but he is very versatile and skilled. He got married to his beard just at the right time, and that gave him the image of "heteronormalcy". His career soon took off big. Best career move he made. If he was out, would he be as famous? Yeah, that's very likely BS right there. |

Jackman is straight. Just because he's worked in musical theater doesn't make him gay. Just because he is married to a hag, has 2 adopted children, has worked in musical theatre, has starred in action films, doesn't make him straight. A bit of common sense and instinct also goes along way. If that source is a record of him stating publicly that he is in fact straight or gay, then you bet it is! I'm not going to make conclusions about the man based on rumors alone. Yes, I suspect he probably is gay, and it may be "common sense" to assume he's gay, but I still like to be sure. |

You must be very unworldly or just being insincere, perhaps both. What is it you miss about the essence of what has already been said? Jackman is an actor and still very popular and is a leading man. He would have a lot to lose by coming out of the closet and that is why he has remained there to this day. The veiled and sometime not veiled scorn and contempt that most people feel for homosexuality is still prevalent. If you think people don't have any reason to stay in the closet, then you must go around with your head in the clouds. As someone who has been involved in gay rights in New York communities for over 35 years your first sentence gave me a chuckle. Yes, there are and there will always be people who feel the way they feel about homosexuals and homosexuality but as a whole we cannot change people's perceptions of what they feel or deem is right or wrong about one's sexual persuasion. However, in the entertainment industry it is deemed more acceptable. The entertainment industry, the sports industry and others have embraced entertainers, athletes, etc who have recently come out of the closet, with little or no backlash or permanent damage to their careers. A prime example is Wentworth Miller, the star of the ultra-macho and very popular show Prison Break, which recently returned to television. He came out of the closet a couple of years ago and what was the typical reaction? Meh. It's not a big deal - anymore! Rupert Everett, another leading man came out nearly twenty years ago (albeit to mixed box-office results but that was mostly because of bad movie choices). If it were true that Jackman were gay and decided one day to come out of the closet the only thing he would have to lose would be his pride. Nothing else. You're reading way more into Jackman than you should. |

I don't really care for the gay rights movement anymore, and while they are exposure, if it wasn't an issue and a big deal, they wouldn't still need their movement, which "does" provoke condescension and ridicule by many and may be more detrimental than good. Wentworth Miller is not an 'A' list leading man and neither was Everett, who did look gay. While I admire their tenacity in coming out, it is still largely seen as a stigma and blight on a movie career. Knowing an actor is gay for many, would still be a big turnoff and that is the way it is and affects choice of roles presented. Yes, Jackman and other big name stars have their pride to lose and that is how they have clung to their status, by holding onto it. They could do a whole lot for the way the herd perceive homosexuals, but at the same time I don't blame them for not coming out. Perhaps you are not reading enough into Jackman, or even others. I don't want to read too much into Jackman because I'm simply not as invested as you seem to be in determining/revealing his sexuality. At the end of the day if he's gay, orange or baked bread, who cares? He's an entertainer and his private life should have no baring on his career whatsoever. This is an open chat thread about a specific topic and I have given an opinion. Jackman's name was mentioned so I have said what I feel and gave a reason. I am not invested in what he does in his personal life and if he chooses to stay with his hag beard that it his prerogative, I have also mentioned that I don't blame actors for not coming out. People are interested in what their idols do with their private lives, that is the price that is paid for fame. So yes, what they do and say is very relevant, just like a politician. People still have the same scorn, contempt and disdain for homosexuality, just like they did 50yrs ago, it may only appear in a different form and it is just as bad. I wonder what kind of gay man you are and if you say you do work for the movement, I would stop. You need a little more self-awareness. Yeah, you're not invested in his personal life.. You are either running around with the wrong crowd or are just completely ignorant of today's standards of awareness. Most people do not have the same scorn, contempt...that was around 50 years ago. Times have changed. People's opinion's and values have changed. Social media has made it even more possible for awareness to be raised regarding LGBTQ issues and concerns. That wasn't happening 50 years ago. For you to make such a blanket statement is just sad. And I'm not sure what you mean when you say I do work for the 'movement' (I never said that, I said I was involved in gay rights) but I would imagine, based on what train of thought seen displayed that you think it's something as simple as marching up and down on a sidewalk waving a rainbow flag. |
