Now come on! There are plenty of males out there that do look gay, and many are the gay ones included. There are also many that don't and homosexuality is something that all males have inherent within them. Not all males in touch with their homosexual tendencies want to be labelled as gay. I don't know what your sexuality is, but wake up man! A) You just admitted that you are clearly a closet gay B) You still haven't actually described what a gay look actually is. It's almost as though it's indescribable He can't describe it because it doesn't exist but he did mention that he thinks that Taylor Lautner is gay because he looks gay. Whatever that means!

It's almost as though it's indescribable I know I am gay, I don't need some bigot to tell me about my sexuality. Bisexuality is more common than you think and I also don't think that a male who has designs on both genders should have to identify as gay. Now get your head out to the clouds and open your eyes and look at the feminine qualities many gay men possess. Does it make you feel insecure and shock you to think that those that you idolize may be more into sausage and not clams? So you perpetuate the stereotype that all gay men have "feminine qualities"....and I am the "bigot" Kill yourself!

Many that may identify as gay may not either, but the queer eye can also be pretty obvious too. Since I identify as gay and am looking from the inside out, I doubt that makes me a bigot regarding homosexuality, when I am just expressing what is apparent. I don't know you, but if you are gay, does it offend or upset you to hear that you may have effeminate qualities you don't care to acknowledge. Or is it you are insecure about the fact that you identify as straight and I claimed you have homosexual tendencies that you haven't acknowledged or tapped into?

Or is it you are insecure about the fact that you identify as straight and I claimed you have homosexual tendencies that you haven't acknowledged or tapped into? First of all, you are avoiding the argument at this point. You initially made a claim that there was such a thing as a "gay look". I challenged you to qualify that statement by explaining what the gay look was. Now you are saying that "many" (not quantified) gay men have "effeminate qualities" (nondescript) which can be obvious. Fine...what are these visible qualities exactly, and what percentage of gay men have this? Can you answer these questions or not? Because that's how you back up your claim. Secondly, just because you are gay doesn't mean you are incapable of bigotry towards homosexuals. Ever heard of the self-hating Jew, or the Uncle Tom, or the female Muslim? There are no doubt self-hating gays who denigrate other gays as well. Your words and actions determine whether one is a bigot or not, not their racial, religious, gender, or sexual identity. And as a social minority, you probably should know that! Thirdly, nothing you say offends me or upsets me. I'm not one to become emotionally invested in what silly statements other people I don't know say, or weird stances they may take (especially strangers on the internet). Whether you think I am gay or straight wouldn't bother me, nor would me having any homosexual (or heterosexual) tendencies. I happen to be very liberal socially, and I don't find any of those things to be offensive, nor would I have any insecurities about them if they applied to me. I assume you are used to arguing with people like that in the past, but I'm not that guy! I'm just challenging you to back up your statement with a reasoned, logical argument (if you can).

Bryce, you are the one denying that men don't look gay. Just look at any self-professed gay guy and his demeanour, the way he talks or expresses himself, or even the things he relates and connects with. Many men might be better at "playacting" a certain gender type to avoid being seen as having homosexual tendencies when in fact they are sexually attracted to other males. Take off the blinkers man! You are also playing devil's advocate and not wanting to acknowledge what I have expressed for some reason about inherent homosexual tendencies in ALL males. Many men DO LOOK GAY, it is as simple as your own conceit. Ok, I do have bigoted thoughts about many things, even other homosexuals and I would be certain you would too, regardless of what you may claim about how socially liberal you are. That is just your own conceit again though. Seeing what is apparent and obvious and calling it like it is, doesn't necessarily make me bigoted regarding the stereotype surrounding homosexuality. Stereotypes do exist. And yes, you are emotionally invested, otherwise you wouldn't be on here attempting to make your own points. Perhaps you may be the silly and weird one to others. You can pretend not to care all you like, but I also don't believe in your sincerity when you claim it wouldn't bother you if someone thinks you are straight or gay. It would! What you identify as is important regarding how you perceive others and their sexualities and to mention ignorance and denial surrounding homosexuality.

Excuse me, but I haven't actually denied ANYTHING so far. All I did was challenge you to elaborate on what you mean by "gay look", back up your claim that there is such a thing. So far in four posts you have yet to do this. The burden of proof is on the individual making the affirmative claim. A denial isn't even necessary on my part. If there is a "gay look", you haven't been able to describe it, much less validate the notion that most gays have it. I have more than one gay friend, and they look, sound, and act very differently from each other in terms of demeanor. You are suggesting that any of them who do not fit a certain stereotype are "acting", but I'd submit to you that it could just as easily be that any of them who fits the stereotype is also acting. Being effeminate or advertising oneself as "gay" seems just as likely (possibly more likely) to be an act than a gay guy who acts like anyone else. After all, sexual preference doesn't have anything to do with the way that someone acts, only who they are attracted to, right? Why should one guy "look different" just because he's into penises instead of vaginas? I just don't see what one thing has to do with the other. Regarding inherent homosexual tendencies in all males, this is also an idea you have failed to validate. What are you basing this on exactly, other than your own assumptions? Because I know many straight men who have no homosexual tendencies that I know of, and I know gay men who have no heterosexual tendencies. So what is your basis for the assumption that both exist in ALL men? Do you have any facts that support that assumption? Or is it just something you want to believe because it helps you rationalize how YOU feel about yourself? And me attempting to make my point has nothing to do with being emotionally invested...at least not for me. It has to do with me being bored and this being an interesting topic. The only "emotion" that this particular conversation stirs is amusement, mostly because YOU are emotionally invested, lol. It just happened to be a thread that caught my eye because it seems so self-defeating. The thread is about "closeted gay actors", and your position seems to be that all of them should be easily identifiable based on a "gay look". Yet, history seems to paint quite the opposite picture. I'm sure you've heard of Rock Hudson (who most people assumed was straight before he was outed). Most of the openly gay actors I know of come off as straight (IMO). Ian McKellen, Neil Patrick Harris, Zachary Quinto...Wentworth Miller, and those are just the ones off the top of my head. In fact, I personally had no idea Ian McKellen was even gay until years after he'd already starred in Lord of the Rings and X-Men. Now, maybe I'm just late to the party on that one, but what about the others? Neil Patrick Harris is known for playing a convincing womanizer in a popular TV show. None of these actors seem particularly effeminate to me, and they are all OUT homosexuals. So I don't know what "gay tendencies" you think you are looking for in the closeted actors. Nevertheless, it's fun to see how you're going to rationalize this ridiculousness.

Either the poster comes from a very small town with very few gays, and the ones that are there are rather 'obvious' or the poster has never seen one of several outstanding movies and/or documentaries that realistically profile all of the following gay men in typically 'macho' careers - who are not flamboyant (not 'acting') in real life: Police officers Firefighters Athletes Construction workers Mechanics They're just regular guys! You'd be surprised how many of us there are! Granted, it may well be that some men may 'out' themselves by their appearance or demeanor but so what? That doesn't and shouldn't mean that all gay guys act and are the same. That's like saying all straight men are the same!

Nevertheless, it's fun to see how you're going to rationalize this ridiculousness. Bryce, the second brief post you made to me, you asked me to kill myself due to my claim about actors, in this case Taylor Lautner, looking gay. That is a very extreme and harsh statement to make to somebody, just because they make a claim that you disagree with. How do you expect to be given credence for your conceited and self-important palaver when you choose to communicate like this? Gay makes you angry doesn't it? You don't identify as gay by the sound of it, and you are attempting to tell others about being gay. Why is this? You are also attempting to justify yourself with arrogant, conceited and smug rhetoric about how does somebody look gay, when you are just going into denial, playing devil's advocate and failing to acknowledge that Taylor Lautner DOES look gay and that gay guys can and do have certain effeminate qualities about them. Get your freakin', stinking, in denial, heterosexist head out of the clouds. You think straight before gay like most other veiled homophobes in society, and of those actors you cited, just because you thought they were straight, doesn't mean that others didn't notice things that you can't see. Can you only look at things in regards to how you perceive them and then expect others to do the same. What a spoiled, selfish and sequestered mindset you must have. Please don't be a teacher, people are f<>ked up enough as it is, and don't need you to corrupt them any further. Yes, you are late to the party and just as ridiculous to boot, not to mention boring. If you are thinking one looks straight, then how does one look straight, if one doesn't look gay? You are playing the same game, but with less instinct and insight. I guess that makes you inferior. It is all an act and the wool gets pulled over your eyes real easy because you are gullible and naive. I bet you hate these actors being out and gay don't you? You know jack squat about homosexuality and I bet you wouldn't even admit to your own homosexual desires, due to your arrogance and conditioned homophobia. Any male that claims he is grossed out and disgusted by the male physique and at the thought of them having sex must have some serious self-loathing issues. Is that your problem? Now go an cosy up to your equally moronic pal Mike the Mechanic. He is just as fake and phony as you and only pretends to be gay.

Negative genius, pay attention. It was actually my third response where I said kill yourself (the first two had me asking you what the gay look was -- you still haven't answered). The reason I said kill yourself has nothing to do with me "disagreeing" with you, or being angry about anything you have to say regarding how to identify a gay. It has to do with the fact that you tried to make an argument based on a stereotype while in the same argument referring to me as a "bigot". The only person who has displayed any bigotry so far is you. Furthermore, your argument is from the standpoint of being gay -- suggesting that you speak for all gay people and know more about gays than anyone else here, yet you refer to me as "arrogant", and "smug". So your entire position is both hypocritical and ironic (which is why you should kill yourself). And in case you are too slow to understand (which seems to be the case), that happens to be a facetious phrase, not literal -- hence the smiley face. In any case, I'm done with this. It seems that either you are an unstable person, or incredibly stubborn and prone to incoherent, inconsistent kettle logic when trying to justify an obvious indefensible, unrealistic position. I asked you a simple question and in as many replies you have failed to answer it. All things being equal, the simplest explanation is the best one. The reason you haven't been able to describe the "gay look" by now is simply because there isn't one! That you have made a failed argument has compelled you to project all of your insecurities and self-perceived failures (bigotry, arrogance, conceit, etc) from this very discussion onto me. Consequently, I'm going to back off and let you continue digging your own hole. It seems here that the only person you have been able to successfully convince on this thread is yourself. If you were an objective observer, that would tell you something! Peace out...

I can't reason or convince somebody who has a sociopath and a narcissist personality and doesn't want to be told something about themselves that they really need to investigate within themselves. It would be very confronting for you and make you feel uncomfortable. Hence your dissociative reasoning for things. Yes, you don't have much insight or intuition, not to mention self-awareness and that is the main point in regards to your ignorance and inordinate arrogance. You believe in straight before gay and that is what you have admitted to and can't back up your own hypocrisy. Nice of you to back out and claim some sort of feeble pathetic defeat by telling me you are done with this. At least there may be some inkling or acknowledgment within you, but I won't be holding my breath. Good riddance tool!

I live near Hollywood. Almost every young aspiring actor I've known has been gay. I don't think it should come as a surprise to anyone that gays are by our nature attracted to acting. But we all know that the corporate side of Hollywood is all about money and marketing male actors to adoring young females. And female actresses must appeal to the fantasies of straight males. So as a career move young gay and lesbian actors are beholden to play it straight. Actually, almost every young aspiring actor has been on the 'casting couch' but that doesn't necessarily mean that they're gay, just that they've used the opportunity to further their careers.

I'm not talking about the casting couch. We all know plenty of straight guys sell their bodies for money on the streets every night. I'm saying we gay males are by our nature attracted to acting. Maybe it's because we spend our childhoods pretending to be good little straight boys. That's great training to be an actor. Or maybe we queerboys just love drama! I just know I've known a lot of young gay aspiring actors and few straight ones.

I just know I've known a lot of young gay aspiring actors and few straight ones. Yup, so have I. I've been in musical theater for almost 30 years and have seen my share of straight and gay guys. And from what I've seen, heard and know about half of the male performers are straight! Yes, some gay males by nature are attracted to the arts (not just acting) but as a whole there are a lot more gays in other fields than the arts. The medical field for example.

Dude, you don't have to tell me that we're not all ballet dancers. I don't play the breeder's stereotyping game. I majored in journalism and am now a corporate buyer. My boyfriend's an engineer. I'm just saying from my experience, most male actors are gay. But most male gays are not actors. We are maybe 10% of the population. If 50% of musical theater actors are gay, we are disproportionately represented.

In my experience I'd say about half were gay but of course that isn't scientific. Just like our being 10% of the population, I think it's probably more than double that if you factor in LGBTQI. In any case, numbers aside the good thing is that we've made it this far and we're here to stay, no matter what field we're in and no matter who or what the current administration has to say on the matter.

How does factoring in TQI make it more? We know T isn't a sexuality, Q is a derogatory term, and as for I, well is that for Interconfused? I also don't think it fair that bisexual men have to identify as gay, as they are capable of sexually embracing both genders. If they are having sex with men, then they could be perceived as being gay, but they are just expressing their homosexual attraction only.
