Is it more like quality or quantity for you?
I don't buy movies all that often and the DVD library is probably small compared to a bunch of yours but it's gotta be one that I really love to add to my collection.
For me, it's quality.
You?

Quality. I buy the movies I love or really like. But there's a lot of them, so I've amassed quite a few.

Quality. I never thought about how many I had until someone on the old IMDb asked.

My problem is blu rays are so cheap I ended up buying movies I liked just a little bit, and then I never watch them again.

Quality. I'm not one of these idiots going crazy wasting money on tons of movies and never watching them.

I don't understand blind buying movies. I've done it with albums before when the ones in question were pretty cheap.

I don't understand blind buying movies. I've done it with albums before when the ones in question were pretty cheap. I blind buy stuff all the time. Usually genre stuff from years past that looks like it fits the bill of something I'd enjoy. More often than not, it works out in my favor. I've discovered many a gem this way. However, I don't understand blind buying whatever new Dwayne Johnson bullshit has just been released.

It's quality, but I have developed an instinct for finding things that I know I will enjoy (see above) so usually quantity is a factor as well.

As I love collecting movies, even the bad installments in some franchises, I'm gonna pick quantity. But I do buy movies that I love as well.

Mainly quality, sometimes I collect certain franchises or exclusive packaging, and there are the occasional spur of the moment purchase, but aside from that it's normally films I truly like or from directors I respect.

Quality tops quantity for me when it comes to random things in general.
but in terms of movies... I already have basically all movies I consider favorites (i.e. movies I score a 7 or higher) that I play from the PC (generally in 720p x264 format (although some movies I have in SD) since it's less file size and basically looks just as good as 1080p on my 43" 1080p TV) on the back of my video card is a HDMI port and from there I got it connected to my 43" 1080p TV using a 20" HDMI cable as you can get those long cables online MUCH cheaper than you can at the local store. but even putting My Favorite Movies aside, I still got a decent portion of my 6/10's. basically I got all movies I score a 6-6.5/10 or higher which is currently 237 movies.
but if $$$ was on the line... I would be much more selective on what I buy. like price of the movie would determine things because I feel even movies I think are top notch are not worth more than around $15 a pop and that would assume Bluray level as it's not worth buying stuff if it's not on Bluray disc simply because what I currently do (which is $0.00) is better than pretty much everything else short of having the movie on a bluray disc.

I always buy movies on discs. The only things I download are albums and singles and some music videos but when it comes to movies and TV shows I like to get them the old fashioned way physically on DVD or Blu Ray and quality is important to me 'cause I don't enjoy watching old movies with bad picture and audio quality which makes it difficult watching some of my old VHS tapes that have really bad audio quality now and you have to turn the volume right up to hear recorded shows.

It just depends. I rarely buy new films on disc but classic films I buy on disc all the time (even if I have never seen them). Netflix et al rarely have films older than the 1990's so I rely on the boutique manufacturers mainly to release nice blurays of old(er) films. Criterion, Kino Lorber, Twilight Time, etc. usually release quality films that are hard to find nowadays.

It started that way, only the creme de la creme...but now I have all sorts of craptacular cinema on DVD, just found an old direct-to-DVD lame horror movie starring one of the lesser Baldwin brothers that I'd totally forgotten about.

Used to be a combination of the two for me way back. Amassing a large collection was my stated goal during my early DVD-collecting days. It led to me owning a not insignificant number of sub-par titles that I ultimately decided I would never be bothered to watch. Most of those DVDs are gone now.
These days I'm far pickier and the quality of the movie I'm buying on disc is my main concern.
