Easy. Horror/Adventure. All of its rip-offs and imitators are usually labelled horror films. I don’t see the difference.

This one is difficult for me because it has huge elements from a number of genres. I say THRILLER, then HORROR, then ADVENTURE. I am voting HORROR, because the movie is a mix of genres and even though I consider it thriller first it still has enough horror aspects to be considered a horror movie. If the poll was asking whether it is ADVENTURE or not, then I would vote NOT.

NOT horror!! ; clearly. like already said, it's more of a thriller.
p.s. it's like those people who try to claim some movies are Westerns when they are clearly not.

Um, this movie has scared more people than any other movie made, horror or otherwise. Clearly this was made to scare people thus making it a horror.

moviemouth Those who call it Horror I would have to assume are in the minority because it does not come across as a more obvious Horror type of movie like actual Horror movies do which is why I don't really think someone can seriously consider it apart of the Horror genre. like in terms of the movies core, it's definitely not Horror. Hell, even IMDb lists it as... 'Adventure | Drama | Thriller'. which is exactly right if you ask me as Horror would be a bit of a stretch when looking at the overall movie.
bottom line.... I don't even think it's debatable that someone could seriously consider Jaws a true horror movie. something like The Exorcist (1973), now that is a clear cut Horror movie or The Conjuring (2013) etc etc.
so with all of that said... I would say what I am saying is closer to fact than opinion.
p.s. ill bet the types who think Jaws is a Horror movie probably see No Country for Old Men (2007) as 'Western' when it's clearly not a Western in the traditional sense with the horses/old days guns/costumes etc. sure, it might have a country type of feel to it and they might have a bit Western theme dress but it's clearly not a Western in the traditional sense and I think based on this reasoning one could apply that to Jaws basically in that it's not really a true Horror movie as it just does not have the typical Horror movie type of feel to it.

That's like saying Jaws is a costume drama ...or not!
Why pick horror at all?
Because it is horror.
Well, for parts of it. It's also a comedy adventure too.

It's Action/ Adventure in the same way that the Indiana Jones pictures are Action/ Adventure. Not everything that scares or terrifies is horror.

Monster movies are a subgenre of horror in my view.

I'm not gonna vote because horror or not horror is absolute. I consider it a horror thriller.

I'd say it's a hybrid of horror, thriller, adventure, with a touch of the disaster genre.

It's horror. It can be considered thriller as well, but let's face it, most horror movies are considered thrillers anyway.

I'll use the old snarky horror fan response for this one. If a film with horror elements is considered mediocre at best and trash at worst, it's horror. If such a film is praised across the board, loved by most, and not named Halloween or the Exorcist, it's a thriller. So I voted "not horror".

Your conclusion definitely doesn’t fit with the rest of your post. It's a common joke among horror fans that films with horror elements that get great reviews are thrillers while many genuine horror films get bad reviews. The conclusion is that there is no such thing as a "good horror film" according to critics and film buffs. It's by no means an exact science or anything, but there seems to be at least some truth to it.
