Yes, they just can't associate themselves anymore with half pint, because her facade was phony and she was really a wicked evil racist. The classic children's literature she wrote was in reality odious propaganda. How dare she reminisce of the era she was brought up in and entertain people. I don't own the books, but I have a good mind to go to some second hand book stores and try to obtain them. In fact, I hope all of this actually has the opposite effect and makes her stories popular again. Who is next, Lucy Maud Montgomery, for Anne Of Green Gables?
but he was a german jew..... With hair the color of carrots. That would account for the temper and we can't have today's children losing the plot.

whatplottherewasnoplotshetalkedlikethis. Megan follows is da bomb! Follows was destined to be Anne. I absolutely adore the first two series. I have only read the first book. the books unfortunately don't follow the megan follows movies/whatever they were. the books have Marilla in them and living with anne and Gilbert and their brood of children but that couldn't happen in video form since Coleen Dewherst died irl.

I didn't care for the older series of Anne, with Gilbert going off to fight in WW1. I think a lot of this was devised around LMM's personality herself. I will need to re-vist the first book and then read the second.

Sorry to dispute a fellow fan of that series, but when was the last time you read the books? Marilla does occasionally visit the Blythe family, but I do not believe she t lives with them on a permanent basis. I say this because I have read all the books in the original series at least twice each. Also, I know this sounds picky, but how could the books "follow" the movies or TV series (especially the latter)? The first book was published in 1908, the last one in 1939--L. M. Montgomery died in 1942. It really is a shame that Colleen Dewhurst died before the Megan Follows series was completed. She was perfect as Marilla, imo. By the way (and off-topic), has anybody else noticed that there have been two actresses sharing (more or less) a name with the heroine of those books? First came Anne Shirley, who took that name after playing the role in the 1934 film version of Anne of Green Gables (before that movie, she used the name Dawn O'Day--which to me sounds vaguely like the name of a stripper); and of course, later on we had Ann Blyth (okay, so her name's lacking a couple of "e"'s), ingenue lead in MGM's Kismet.

I had heard Cary Grant did that too (changed his name from Archibald Leach to "Cary Grant" after a character he played), but I couldn't find any evidence at IMDb to support that. Oh well.

I think we can all say the civil war was a big embarrassing fart in our nation's and world history. THE MAIN POINT: is that society today is trying to hold HISTORICAL PEOPLE accountable for TODAYS VALUES. however shitty those values are. Nah, her depiction of Native Americans was ridiculous even at the time she wrote her books. Besides, no one's holding her accountable. Her books aren't being banned. But the Association for Library Service to Children is holding itself accountable by not having an award honoring someone who wrote clearly racist stereotypes. Anti-racism is not a shitty value. as far as I can remember, the only time Laura sees native Americans is at a distance, when they are riding by, when she takes a fancy to an Indian baby and wants Pa to get it for her, to which Pa answers reasonably enough "The Indian woman wants to keep her baby." THere are some hostile comments made by some settlers about the Indians, but they are no doubt authentic opinions made at the time, and in no way reflect the opinions of the author.

THere are some hostile comments made by some settlers about the Indians, but they are no doubt authentic opinions made at the time, and in no way reflect the opinions of the author. no no, there was a time where pa went hunting because they had no meat for supper and therefore took the only gun when two indian men came by. she wrote about it specifically. gently and quietly ransacking things, opened the door like they owned the place, sat down at the table, took the tobacco and some other things, rummaged until ma made cornbread and served it to them [as charles told her to do]. girls are cowering behind the wood pile. they eat corn bread, take more corn bread for the road, take more random stuff and then wander out like a fart in the wind. laura really wanted to let jack loose but mary talked her out of it because pa said no [and that was good advice too -- they would have shot jack and then have had reason to be even more SAVAGE towards the ingalls. complete with raping and scalping. and what is this about depictions and ridiculous? THIS IS WHAT THEY DID! WHAT SHE EXPERIENCED! she even wrote what her mother [and sister on cue from her mother] said about them SAVAGES. she doesn't say whether or not she agreed with them but just mentioned the reality of her life. she was too young to form an opinion back then. and no one said her books were being banned, just that they were yanking an award. still, you cant hold a long dead historical celebrity responsible for NOT thinking the way we think today. that is just asinine and retarded.
