Different expectations.
The common thought is that anything Star Wars should open big and make a certain amount just for being in the franchise. Solo underperformed compared to its predecessors. A lot of people werenβt feeling it before, during, or after production and felt it didnβt add anything to the SW canon, so repeat viewings were limited.
Ant-Man is a solid, but lower scale part of the MCUβs heroes. This is the lighthearted follow up to IW just 2 months ago. Smaller scale, less of an overall impact outside of Ant-Manβs personal world. There have been several huge films within that period since IW opened. I think thatβs a fine opening weekend and AM&TW was never meant to be an IW or CW. Seems like the quality is there, though, and hopefully word of mouth picks it up along the way.

We'll see. If it makes less than it's predecessor than it'll be a flop.

Ant-man was never expected to he a money machine, unlike Solo. Thus the double standard.

Ant-Man is the MCU's loss leader. We can take the hit. Believe that.

It'd be surprisingly good I think because I was half expecting this would actually open lower than the first one.
But yeah you can't compare this to Solo because the last Ant-man opened to around $50 million whereas the last Star Wars movie opened to a staggering $220 million.

Other than Avengers Age of Ultron (sequel to Avengers) is there a direct sequel in the MCU that has made less than the one before it? I don't think there is. That's kind of impressive.

We'll see. If it makes less than it's predecessor than it'll be a flop. It'll only be a flop if it actually loses money.

You can't label it a flop when they have a female superhero character in the title, are you are sexist? Or even worse a white male?

I don't know who is more sensitive the people calling for more diversity or the people complaining about people wanting more diversity.

Solo's production budget was double Ant-Man & The Wasp's. Of course. But that doesn't matter to the movie going public. All they care about it whether they liked the movie or not. Most movie goers don't know or even care what the budget of something aside from its "a lot".

I bet it is closer to $100 million than 75 Person after my own heart nerdy Star Wars fan and Oakland Raider fan??? If so I have to tell you I am wearing a very expensive Khalil Mack Jersey. Raider Pj bottoms, and Raider Slippers as I type this. Edit: And being born and raised in the Carolinas for 40 years. Not that fun being a Raiders Fan Especially in 2002-2004. Well basically any time past 1984 but especially after 2002
