I remember pay phones.
There's still 2 drive in theaters around here
I learned metric in school because the science classes used it and the engineering ones used both systems.

...you tested vacuum tubes at the local drug store to repair your radio
...you purchased gasoline at .30 cents per gallon
...you purchased cigarettes at .19 cents per pack at the PX during the Vietnam war
...candy bars were .05 cents each
...there were no seat belts in cars
...the Kaiser, DeSoto and Nash Rambler were car brands
...the Good Humor Man sold great ice cream cheap!
...the penny gumball machine would occasionally yield a winner getting you a nickel candy bar...
Howdy Doody was on TV

You had "under the desk drills" in school to avoid the atomic bomb not to avoid your fellow students with assault rifles.

Only Dad drove. Mom held the baby on her lap.
Only Dad worked. Mom stayed home and described herself as "just a house-wife".

You went to the house of the neighbor who had a television set to watch I Love Lucy and Sid Ceasar and Imogene Coca on Your Show of Shows.

To determine his age, Catman has to remember two things: the year he was born and the current year.
Sometimes, he needs a couple minutes to figure out the answer.

You had seen it on television many times and were amazed to learn that The Wizard of Oz is in color.

…. people never said "Did You Find Everything You Were Looking For ?" at the check-out.
come to think of it .. the check out was probably the store owner (or his family) and they added the total up in pencil on the brown paper bag the groceries were going to go into.

......you had to get out of your car while it was sent through the car wash. I think they stopped doing that in Norway before i was born.
......ALL gas stations were full-service (no self-serve). I can`t say i remember that
......pay phones were EVERYWHERE, many in 'booths', with closing doors, that you stood in while using. I remember pay phones. Last time i used one was probably 20 years ago
......doctors made house-calls. In my almost 35 years on this earth i don`t think i have seen it. At least i have no memory of it
......dairy trucks delivered milk to your doorstep. I think they stopped doing that in Norway decades before i was born. Actually i am not sure if this was ever done in Norway.
......public schools employed truant officers. If they ever did this in Norway it was before i started in school. Which was in 1990
......drive-in movie theaters dotted the land. As far as i know there have never been a drive in theater in Norway.
......you learned the 'metric system' in school, in anticipation of the "conversion" that never came. We have used the metric system in Norway since 1887 i believe. So it has been thing that came and has stayed for 131 years
......the term "reboot" had nothing to do with computers, or tv/movie franchises. Can`t say that i do.

You had "under the desk drills" in school to avoid the atomic bomb not to avoid your fellow students with assault rifles. "DROP!!!"And the weekly air raid siren tests. Y'know, those "drop drills" really had a conditioning effect. When the Sylmar quake woke me at 6:00AM in Feb '71, I at first thought "the bomb" had dropped and reflexively went into "duck and cover" position without even thinking.

… you know what "a record" is … you remember when only two songs came on a record … one on each side. … REALLY old .. you remember when only one side was recorded on and the other side was flat and blank … Really REALLY old … your phonograph played by winding it up and even earlier than that … the sound came out of a horn.
Just for the record …. not all of these were personally experienced Edit .. you know what the term "phonograph" refers to without having to google it. .

Yeah, I remember all those things and already felt old, but thanks for the "relatively," anyway.
- All telephones had rotary dials, most were black, made of bakelite and metal and weighed a couple pounds. And belonged to the phone company. And I do mean "the," because there was only one in your area
- Party lines
- Phone numbers like STate4-8596, EMpire4-7630 and TRiangle2-1880...and no area codes
- Postal Zones (like Hollywood 28, CA)
- You had to get up off the couch to change the TV channel...and even the largest metro areas had only about seven
- Fuller Brush men
- Avon ladies (my mother was one)
- Ushers with flashlights who showed latecomers to seats in movie theaters...and crying rooms...and the only ads you saw were "Previews Of Coming Attractions"
- Drivers licences had B&W photos (or none at all if you're even older than I)
- Auto registrations were displayed on the post of the steering wheel (and held in place with a little metal spring thingy like a miniature Slinky)
- Getting all the way to the beach with a cooler full of cans and bottles and realizing no one remembered to bring a church key
- Flying a commercial airline without ID and it didn't matter whose name was on the ticket (my boss bailed on a business trip at the last minute and sent me in her place on her ticket...and I don't even look like a "Marilyn"). Don't get me started on the rest of the @#$%& we have to go through these days.

Doghouse6realizing no one remembered to bring a church keyKnowing that a "church key" opens no building.
Sardine cans with a key that rolled up the lid … no pop top ring there .
Carrying a dime in your "penny loafer" in case you had to make a phone call. Wearing "penny loafers". Wearing shoes instead of flip=flops.

The 45 spindle adapter that was about the size of a dill pickle. Putting an LP on the changer and discovering the hard way that Dad had left the speed set at 78. Mono LPs: $2.39; Stereo LPs: $2.99 (paid for with Silver Certificates and change).

...soft drinks came in glass bottles and you paid a deposit of a few cents for each one.
People had a habit of throwing these bottles out of the car window. As kids we went around picking them up and returning them for the deposit. Hey, free candy and soda. I think people littered more back then before Iron Eyes Cody shamed us.

Even worse was finding that the heavy 78 needle was in the play position of a dual needle player , Doghouse6ouch
