They look stupid and uncomfortable. What possible reason could there be to wear them? Do they do it just because society tells them to and it's "tradition" or whatever?

Thanks for sharing that enlightened opinion... One that I don't share. I agree. Their toes get squished together, the shoes are made of a material that doesn't flex and breathe, and the angle of their feet doesn't look natural. Not sure how and why that shoe design was ever invented. Do they do it just because society tells them to and it's "tradition" or whatever? Partly. Most people believe it makes a woman look elegant, especially when wearing a formal dress or ballroom dancing gown... What possible reason could there be to wear them? Some women actually wear them, because on the Name... "HIGH HEELS" When you are "Five Feet Four Inches" tall, you want to look your best out on the Dance Floor. Fred Astaire would have looked like a giant, dancing with Ginger Rogers if she had not worn them... and it would have been quite difficult for them to dance "Cheek To Cheek" too! But for those people don't dance, they also make shoes with extra thick soles... To give a woman some height. They look much more comfortable, so, I am not sure why more women don't wear those instead... Unless... Red Sneakers just don't look as nice... Fashion VS Comfort... I guess for women, Fashion is more important.

It makes them taller and creates the illusion of longer legs. It also accentuates the calves. Ankle straps are hot, too.

Catman heard it supposedly improves the appearance of the buttocks. So you bought a pair? Cats walk on their tiptoes without the aid of footwear.

They redistribute a woman's weight as she walks, making her jut out her behind more "suggestively," elongating her calves, elevating her feet so that they appear shorter, and making her walk more mincingly and with more swaying as she goes. They also tend to be painful to walk in, pinching the woman's feet and toes unnaturally so that she often winds up with misshapen feet and foot problems, more likely to suffer sprains in her ankles, leg pain, and backaches. And, as monster movie fans know, they make it more difficult for a woman to run away from the monster, which is why she usually falls down when trying to escape and needs the guy to pick her up and carry her. The purpose is to make women both elegant and helpless.

I don't wear high heels (and my height is not much above five feet). If other women want to "look elegant" while suffering all those pains and discomforts--some of which persist long after the shoes come off--that's their business. I value my comfort (and safety) far above other considerations. Besides, my chronic foot problem--a little thing called plantar fasciitis--precludes my wearing those fashionable torture devices.

My preference for them is to be totally nude but with just high heels.

I'm 4'9". Even if I cared what someone else thought it wouldn't help. They are way too uncomfortable IMO.

Yeah, I don't get it either because outside of 'maybe' their look they just seem VERY uncomfortable. in fact, I am almost impressed that they can walk in those things as it's like they are almost walking on their toes damn near.
overall though, given they seem massively uncomfortable, it's a wonder they even bother with them because having some semi-uncomfortable shoes is one thing, but high-heels just seem well beyond that point where the bad would far outweigh the good.

This. It's a feminine thing, so I guess that's what men are sexually attracted to, kinda like the bodily attributes to women (you know what I'm talking about).
