I would argue that Avatar is most likely too expensive for Disney+. Good point, especially considering they've already taken a bath with their Marvel and SW content. Though avatar content doesn't have to be film quality. They could do animated tie-ins and what have you, like they do with the other properties. It'll be interesting to see what direction they go from here with all of these properties. There is a video game that’s supposed to be coming out this year.

In cinema releases it already has for me. Now these Avatar films aren't going to keep making $2 billion every time out if they keep releasing them every other year, but they will all be successful. I couldn't tell you anything about either movie, but I enjoyed the experience of watching both and I'll be forking out my dough for the next one and likely any more they put out. I don't really care about any of the characters, actors or performances. You're not going to get idiots making racist comments about an annoying Asian character or traumatise an 8yo for life because the director couldn't get a performance out of him. I'm just there to see some set pieces in 3D and it's Cameron so I know I'll get that.
Star Wars though they've burned me. I don't trust them any more. I don't want to return to their vision of Star Wars. I don't like the more extreme part of the fandom. There's just no fun to be had there for me any more.

The next Avatar movie is scheduled for December 2024, and it already finished filming a while ago. All of this was already in the works before Disney acquired the property. Again, take all the SW content on Disney+ into consideration. Have there been any announcements regarding Avatar content coming to D+? I don't know, it's a legitimate question on my part. It doesn't seem like Disney views Avatar the same way it views Star Wars at the moment. The success of Avatar 2 could change that, but there's nothing to suggest that as of yet. That’s the thing. The fact that Disney has shifted it’s Star Wars material to Disney+ shows the little faith they have in the franchise. I think that the failure of Solo and the underperformance of ROS sealed the deal for the franchise as far as movies go. Disney would much rather invest in Avatar films.
