I love the MCU and the first Ant-Man was a very pleasant surprise. This one was not a bad movie by any means. It had great action scenes and was written well enough. I just though it was okay. It actually dragged a little in parts and I found myself being bored. Everyone in the theater was gasping at the after credits scene but I found it to be very predictable. Scott has very little to do in this one and just sort of feels there. There is also not really a villain. This movie just feels like it was made just to be made.

I'm really not looking forward to seeing this anymore. It's getting the worst reactions of any MCU movie since Thor TDW.

I'm really not looking forward to seeing this anymore. It's getting the worst reactions of any MCU movie since Thor TDW. Thor TDW is the perfect comparison. Not a terrible movie by any means, but nothing to remember. Some good action and some good humor in parts, just like Thor 2, but still at the bottom end of the MCU. The movie was just so average in every way. Still fun to watch, but my standards are higher now. After Infinity War and Thor 3, this looks below average.

I agree that Thor 2 is perfectly watchable but the bar should be higher by now. I see no reason why an Ant Man movie can't be as good as Thor 3. Maybe they need a new director and screenwriter for the third movie...

just okay means in the real world of films, it is terrible. Funny I thought Ironman 2, Thor, Thor 2, BVS, Justice League, The Wolverine and X-men Apocalypse was just okay. I never thought of that being a death sentence to a movie though. Or that in the real world would make them terrible.

It's very irritating.

Granted any piece of art that doesn't evoke a strong response is irritating. I wouldn't call it terrible though. Disappointing and irritating yes. Film as a genre of art is so weird. I love bad films sometimes. I've hated great films. Sometimes something middling could be a respite from the constant analyzing I do when watching a movie. It's the mental equivalent of having a box of kraft macaroni and cheese when you've had days of gourmet food.

Rotten Tomatoes generally and critical reviews specifically can be a metric to gauge a movies potential quality. Quality in this case is still subjective. As good quality to some could be middling to others. I say critical reviews specifically because you can find individual critics that seem to have your taste. So it's more tailored to your specific likes and dislikes. It can be a more specific subjective gauge. Rotten Tomatoes critical percentage thumb up or thumb down, and rating can be used even more generally and still is subjective. Audience scores are the most general as they tend to skew to good universally. So no he doesn't have to explain that. No matter how hard we try their is no objective gauge of a film's, a form of art, quality.
