Are you a firm believer in the "Season 1 thru 9/10 were the show's Golden Era" idea or do you believe that the show had some good seasons/episodes left to offer "post-Golden Era"?
I'm eagerly awaiting your responses. 😀

Seasons 3 - 7.
I forget when it was (because it was so long ago) but the episode where Homer becomes a boxer seemed like a return to form after the series started to drag. A few episodes after that, I had lost interest again.
I'm sure there are many great episodes past that one but that was the swansong for me.

I can't really remember when I stopped watching The Simpsons, it was so long ago. I know I definitely stopped watching before they ever changed the opening credits sequence. I think the last full episode I remember watching and enjoying was 'Treehouse of Horror XII' (the one with the leprechaun, toad-man and Pierce Brosnan in it)...so, yeah, quite some time ago.

I guess I'd have to go with that^ (though the episode I mentioned above was from Season 13 apparently, so maybe there were some decent ones after Season 10...I just can't remember any others).

Season 6 is my all time favorite season. The heart, humor, wit, and charm just seemed effortless at this point. Now the absolute best era of the show's history were from Season 3 to Season 8. I would argue that for seasons 9 through 12 still had their moments and the greatness of the earlier five years more or less rubbed off onto them.

Seasons 3 - 8 were definitely the show at its high point. Though I'm sure they've had some good episodes since then, the consistency and high quality have dipped.

Although I do like some of his episodes, especially 'Lisa on Ice', I think the show started to go down hill when Mike Scully got more control. The episodes became more wacky, and the humor relied more heavily on slapstick.
Essentially, I believe the quality of The Simpsons is directly proportional to whoever was working on the show at the time... I know that sounds obvious, but so much talent passed through that show in the 90's. Brad Bird, John Swartzwelder, Bill Oakley/Josh Weinstein (the show greatly suffered from their departure), Conan O'Brien and David Merkin.
I watched the show on a daily basis growing up, and I still watch it occasionally now. After enough viewing, you kind of get a feeling for each writer/showrunner's style. For example, any of the Lisa episodes are essentially Al Jean channeling himself into the story.
People often treat The Simpsons as a single entity, but when so many different people have worked on the show over almost 30 years, it's more like 30 different variations of the same theme, with each writer having a unique approach. I think in the 90's it got a run of very talented individuals who certainly left their mark on the show.

1-9 are the golden years where they could do no wrong.
It bothers me when people omit season 2 from the classic era. It's every bit as good as the others.
Season one is a bit primitive but still deserves to be considered part of the "classic era".
As for season 10: it is still really solid, but is a huge step down in terms of consistency and overall quality.
I do consider the show "good" through season 13 though. Season 11 is quite weak but 12-13 are right on par with 10 IMO. Season 14 is the first truly bad season.

season 1 is classic, season 2 is where it got really funny. i'd say up to around season 15. the classic mel gibson episode is somewhere around season 11. then it started changing a bit. eventually it went hd. there are some good episodes scattered here and there in the modern seasons though i haven't watched the last 3 or 4. every 7 seasons or so they do a futuristic episode and they have gotten better and better.

My opinion: about seasons 1-8/9ish is probably the Golden Era of the Simpsons. But I think following years had some really good episodes, but those seasons aren't as...impactful or, as a whole, good in the same way that earlier seasons were. I think my favorite seasons are probably 3, 4, and 7.

It's just a little dirty! It's still good, it's still good! It's just a little slimy! It's still good, it's still good! It's just a little airborne! It's still good, it's still good!
There are still good episodes but they are fewer and far between. The worst Simpsons episode is still better than the best episode of Family Guy

First 12 seasons for me.
Wish they'd end this show. It's beyond terrible now.

I still watch it with my 4 year old and 8 year old. Both love it. I realize it is not nearly as good as it was, but I have actually watched it since the beginning. I still find some of it funny. I actually watched a new episode last night and there were some funny moments.

They're all good. It's just conventional internet hipster wisdom that the "good seasons" were somewhere between the first six and the first ten, and it just depends on when you personally were at the right age to discover and most enjoy the show. I could say, "It was SOOO much better from 1994 to 1999, when I watched it every Sunday on Fox!" Or I could realize that if anything's changed, it's me. Not The Simpsons, which is every bit as funny as it always was.

It's certainly changed a lot but I actually think it's still pretty solid. They've have some really good concept episodes in recent years and have gone off in some very bizarre directions. A lot of the early episodes I remember as a kid could have been from a live-action sitcom, but it's pretty out there at times now.

I cant believe its still on the air. Nobody watches it. The youngest voice actors are old enough to be grandparents right now. They are really beating a dead horse Family Guy was always a smarter series and I even stopped watching that since they got way to left leaning. It always turned me off when I found out that the voices of bart and lisa were both actresses who were scientologists.
