The more I think about it, the more I think this could be a soul crushing defeat for the hosts if Croatia really put the foot to the floor. Too much speed, too much skill in the midfield....

3-0 for Croatia. But then, I thought Spain was going to beat the Russians by a massive margin.
But Croatia is not Spain.

No. 1 seed halep out: Top seed Simona Halep went out of Wimbledon in the third round after losing an epic three-set battle against Hsieh Su-wei. The Taiwanese world number 48's serve was broken seven times and she saved a match point before winning 3-6 6-4 7-5 in two hours and 20 minutes. It means Czech seventh seed Karolina Pliskova is the only top-10 player remaining in the women's singles draw. It is the first time Hsieh, 32, has reached the last 16 of the singles. The 2013 doubles champion will now play Dominika Cibulkova after the Slovak beat 15th seed Elise Mertens of Belgium 6-2 6-2. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/44751675

All my hopes rest now on Croatia...it would a nightmare to see Russia or the Britons succeeding.

Commentators made a good point, Croatia basically only played once well, against Argentina. Other than that, they weren’t all that impressive.

I mean for historical reasons it makes sense.. other than that you dont have much of a real rivalry in other ways. Many Germans are anti-American and thus pro Russian. The AfD has also a great pro Russian momentum. But along with Britain and Turkey I consider Russia as one of three major threats for us in Europe - different kinds of threats. The US and China are also challenges, but the real threat comes from these three nations. They are close, too close. Hence I support the sanctions on Russia, and I would even opt for a complete embargo, the Brexit, which will come hopefully soon and in the hardest way possible, a status next to an embargo, and the end of any negotiations with Turkey about becoming an EU member. We should reach out for other allies like Brazil, India...maybe even China.

What the hell, I will support Russia on this one. On the prediction game I had said 0xO, but I will now say 2 x 0 for the hosts.

On a different note: not a bad start of the match. Russia is trying and are almost dangerous!
