What is it with these PLACEHOLDER@PROBOARDS messages from Twitter that ARE BLANK UNLESS you get the BBCode to find the URL link it goes to? Why do people post these? Do they NOT check and realize IT'S BLANK? Then someone/s gives them a thumbs-up for it.

I'll try to explain what's up with it as far as I know.
When a tweet is posted as an "embed" (i.e. like a YouTube video that someone posts, which is not coming from this site, but rather relies on YouTube for the relevant data), Proboards' internal method for embedding tweets creates a placeholder template and then fills in the blanks afterwards. So if a tweet has been deleted or otherwise cannot be retrieved, it will give you that result.
You're not actually getting a direct link to the tweet, like say, with an image. What's happening is that you're getting a bit of code set up to look like a tweet and then the relevant data is filled in. If there's no data there to get, then the placeholder is all you're going to see. Not much can be done about it.
Hope this helps a bit.

That doesn't explain, however, how one can quote the offending post and find the URL in the BBCode, and then use that to open the missing tweet. Is it perhaps browser dependent? Like say a Firefox deficiency?

It's not something I've personally experienced and if it's a problem with the way tweets are embedded, I simply can't gauge how easy it would be to fix. The posts RIP seems to be referring to were of deleted tweets. Do you have an example of one that exists but isn't shown?

Hmm. It shows up for me. So browser issue or some other issue user side is the likely culprit. What do you use?

Or page mutations?

Just tried whitelisting both twitter and these forums on AdBlock Plus, no joy.
And that's the only plugin Catman uses.

You know, firewall, McAfee or Norton AV, Malwarebytes, or whatever and etc? All I know it works on my end and I'm not doing anything special. I know you're computer savvy and could hunt the problem down so at the very least I'll let you know it's not a general problem and that it is user side.

Norton ... but if that were the source, wouldn't that block twitter completely, and not just when there's a twitter link on ProBoards? Why would highlighting the twitter link allowing opening the tweet page? Quite the mystery.

bartlesby, could it have something to do with whatever you did for the YouTube vids?

bartlesby , could it have something to do with whatever you did for the YouTube vids? I never did anything drastic with the YouTube vids, actually. Not many were clamoring for change there. I did change it so Instagram embeds wouldn't be resized along with them and get cropped off but that wouldn't affect Twitter embeds because they're not iframes like YT and Instagram.

Chloe Bennet from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. confirms she's dating Logan Paul < ONLY an hour ago or so...Again, this one displays for me just fine. Also, that poor girl. Curiouser and curiouser. I fear if I can't replicate the problem, I can only speculate. This may be something the Proboard overlords have encountered so time to take it to them.

Again, this one displays for me just fine. I'm on an iMac desktop (macOS High Sierra; Version: 10.13.5) using Chrome; Version 67.0.3396.99 (Official Build) (64-bit). I also have Safari (Version: 11.1.1 (13605.2.8) and Opera (Version: 54.0.2952.54) and will check those...
RESULTS: DOESN'T show in Chrome. DOES show in Safari. DOES and then goes away IF you refresh in Opera. ONLY Safari shows it and keeps it after refreshing the page. So, THEREFORE, it works BEST in Safari of the three.

Will get back to you once I learn a bit more and get some more sleep, frankly.
