I'm on an iMac desktop (macOS High Sierra; Version: 10.13.5) using Chrome; Version 67.0.3396.99 (Official Build) (64-bit). I also have Safari (Version: 11.1.1 (13605.2.8) and Opera (Version: 54.0.2952.54) and will check those...
RESULTS: DOESN'T show in Chrome. DOES show in Safari. DOES and then goes away IF you refresh in Opera. ONLY Safari shows it and keeps it after refreshing the page. So, THEREFORE, it works BEST in Safari of the three. Thanks for the additional info. I have the same version of Chrome and it works fine.
Will get back to you once I learn a bit more and get some more sleep, frankly. MUST BE a COMBINATION of the browser (since YOU'RE using the same Chrome as I am) and the OS of the computer.

Browser and OS?
Browser and one or more of the extensions?
Browser, OS and one or more of the extensions?

It's down to the browser and the internal scripting not working in all cases. It may also be that it throws out the placeholder if it can't get a response from Twitter in a certain amount of time. Extensions may also come into play. You could try toggling a few and seeing what you get. Hard to say. Diagnosing computer problems without being able to replicate them is like trying to type a sentence from across the room with a mop handle while holding the business end.

So the cause and solution in Catman's case was really simple.
There's a 'feature' on Firefox which is designed to block tracking attempts on websites.
Disabling that for this site allows the tweets to show up.

Disabling that for this site allows the tweets to show up. I use Chrome. I should look to see IF that's possible with it.
