Classic '50's movie icon Tab Hunter passed away yesterday, just three days short of his 87th birthday.
May he RIP.

I enjoyed his work, I only became a fan recently, because of movies like Ride the Wild Surf, Lafayette Escadrille, The Burning Hills and The Girl He Left Behind. And also that documentary on his life, Tab Hunter Confidential . He seemed much younger than his age, and I assumed he was in great health. He seemed happy and at peace with how his life went at last in the documentary. Rest in Peace Tab Hunter movies I've seen: The Burning Hills The Girl He Left Behind Lafayette Escadrille Ride the Wild Surf Polyester Pandemonium Grease 2 Lust in the Dust

In addition to being a solid performer, Tab was also a solid singer. I really need to read his autobiography someday. Ironically I was just talking about him and the book a few days ago. I really thought he was charismatic and fun in John Waters Polyster. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEg5oWW5F2c

I just watched him in The Arousers (1972), which seems to be better known as Sweet Kill. He was reinventing himself as a serial killer in this one. His performance is the best thing about it, aside from the ridiculous amount of nudity.

His performance is the best thing about it, aside from the ridiculous amount of nudity. After the Production Code ended and the rating system was installed, movie studios went overboard with gratuitous nudity, whether it was important to the plot line or not. Some of it was full-frontal nudity of both men and women. Eventually, the viewing public got sick of it, and it greatly declined. BTW, by 1972, actors like Tab Hunter were considered "has beens" who would take any role offered, no matter how bad.

As if the movie didn't already have enough nudity, there were flashbacks to nudity previously seen earlier in the movie. I had to laugh!

I was idiotically fond of his TV show, a comedy with Richard Erdman and Reta Shaw. He was a hip and groovy bachelor in Malibu.
I also enjoyed his TV. Movie if Hans Brinker. Who knew he could actually skate.
I admire his efforts to live as honestly as the times would allow.
