— John Dickson Carr — Arthur Conan Doyle (via Sherlock Holmes) What are some downright strange (non-political) news stories that you see? I’ve been posting some in my “ Apolitics” thread, but I think it would be best to have a thread just for the topic. Open to being about ghoulies, ghosties, long-legged beasties, and anything else odd that strikes your fancy. From unsolved mysteries to crime capers to the supernatural to treasure hunts to weird historical tidbits. All welcome. Here’s one to start: www.cnn.com/travel/article/concrete-arrows-america/index.html

I like reading about serial killers and all things unexplained. I don't know if this video constitutes what you mean, but I recently watched it and found it interesting:

Thanks, Morgana! I’ll try to take a look at the video when I can. In general, though, I’m just looking for everything and anything that may come up in the news that seems outré, bizarre, mysterious.

Life is all of those things. Whatever you've seen or read, there is shit going on 10X more bizarre than that. What you make of that is up to you.

What's even weirder are the laws that actually protect maniacs like that, and virtually enable them to steal a legitimate owner's home out from under them.

Shame they couldn't just sell the beast at Lockwood Manor.

It’s a pretty interesting one, though it seems some of the more intriguing elements have been embellished. What do you think happened?

It’s a pretty interesting one, though it seems some of the more intriguing elements have been embellished. What do you think happened? The best explanation I've seen is that it was a combination of factors. People suffering from extreme hypothermia apparently can behave very strangely, and one common symptom is that they can feel warm no matter how cold it is - so it's not uncommon for sufferers to be found in little or no clothing. Perhaps tensions or arguments turned into fights, accounting for the injuries? Then hypothermia caused them to undress and walk around, maybe looking for a way out in a confused state of mind? Or the injuries could come from some sort of robbery? I know they were in a remote area, but other people may have passed through there as well and attacked them, perhaps. The missing body bits may be animals that came along after they died.
I'm also unconvinced that the inquiry was reliable. Anyone that is happy to list "a compelling natural force" as a reason for death and leave it at that doesn't inspire my confidence. So who knows how accurate the evidence actually is - what may have been missed? But honestly there's just no convincing explanation to be had, IMO. It's a plain mystery, and I doubt we will ever know what really happened.

Cross-posted on the “Paranormal” board. Highly recommended read.
