Well, they aren't going to the movies in record numbers since the industry doesn't even care about that, as much as they are spending money at the movies in record numbers.

What does faster internet have to do with going to the movies? Watching a movie online and going to the theatre are two completely different experiences. Also, movie tickets are much more expensive than they were 10-20 years ago, which explains the inflated box office numbers. People aren't 'really' going to the theatre in record numbers, it's just things cost so much more than before. A $600 million dollar grossing movie for example would've been like $300 million back in 1990s or $150 million in the 1970s.
