I'm only familiar with his roles from "Jurassic Park" and "The Great Escape."

I have seen Gandhi, Magic and A Bridge Too Far and all 3 are impressive movies.

See Brighton Rock and Seance on a Wet Afternoon as evidence of what a powerful actor he could be.
He never really impressed me as a director - from what I've seen the only one I would watch again is Shadowlands.

A Bridge Too Far is a great war movie. His other films range from good to awful. He was a better actor than director.

Chaplin and Young Winston are okay; A Bridge Too Far was decent; and Gandhi is still impressive.
