Can't include all of them, but I'm even including some I'm not fond of, but I know are loved (such as Blade Runner and Sunshine), and some beloved ones I even deplore, but they're there. In order to include as many as possible, I avoided the ones generally geared more towards Horror, such as the Dracula, Frankenstein, Mummy, and such, and the fantasy world Universe films, and also the multiple King Kong, Godzilla, and zombie ones. I'll leave them for other polls.
Truly sorry about forgetting the classic FIRST SPACESHIP ON VENUS. If I could edit in before votes, I would do so. Others I would like to have room for are THEY LIVE and THE THING (the first two things)

I voted for these, all of which I own on DVD: - Them!
- Planet of the Apes (with Heston)
- The Andromeda Strain
- The Day the Earth Stood Still (with Rennie)
- Forbidden Planet
- Silent Running
- Quatermass and the Pit*
- Lifeforce
Honorable mention to Fantastic Voyage, which I also own on DVD.
*EDIT: I own the TV version on DVD. But I do have a VHS copy of the movie version (AKA "Five Million Years to Earth"). If the a reasonably priced Region 1 copy of the movie was available, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

based on those movies the OP listed... War of the Worlds (2005) is my #1. but i did cast 7 total votes on that list.
but my #1 Sci-Fi movie in general is one of the following two movies...
-Source Code (2011) or -The Terminator (1984)
both are within my Top 29 movies.
p.s. @ OP ; trying to list all Sci-Fi movies just ain't going to happen as you might be able to try to do something based on say the IMDb Top 250 and see how that goes as just trying to list a bunch of Sci-Fi movies straight up will simply be too many to list.

You missed the greatest off your list.
Metropolis (1927) dir. Fritz Lang is by a country mile the most influential Sci-fi movie. Still influencing new movies today, and not only sci-fi.
Solaris (1972) is another very important sci-fi movie not on your list.
Of more recent movies I go for Blade Runner (director's cut).
I respect 2001 but I cannot warm to it.
Nice to see Quatermass and the Pit getting some love. Are they all Brit voters or is it known in the USA as well?

Blade Runner is soaring to a lead. Looks like it's between two I consider "inferior" sci-fi movies in Blade and Odyssey.
Some people want to know why I don't include every movie ever. Well, they only give you so much room. I'd like to have the Thing movies, They Live, the Alien movies, It the Terror From Beyond Space, First Spaceship on Venus, but there's no room. Most of the other suggestions are among the more "obscure" ones. Just being recent doesn't make them less obscure. I try to mix in a number of obscure ones, along with the "cult" ones, along with iconic ones, along with classics, but some of each are sacrificed.
I may make a new one of "those left off the list" later.

I like a bunch of this very solid list, but only Blade Runner would make it into an actual Top 8 for me...(The Thing, Star Trek: First Contact, Alien/Aliens are notable omissions) Love that you included Lifeforce, one of the more original Sci-Fi / Vampire films ever made...and Night of the Creeps is cool to see just because it was shot for the most part on my campus (UCLA)..Before I got there of course...

Another one missing from your list which no-one has yet mentioned. and which I would rate ahead of most on your list, is Total Recall (1990)
