Watching old comedy shows from the 70s, 80s, and 90s
Looking at old photos from photo albums
Talking and reminiscing about the good old days.
Listening to old school music.
Looking at old magazines from back then.
Reading and looking back on my old notebooks and schoolwork from elementary school.
Collecting the things that I loved from my childhood.

Huge flocks of passenger pigeons in the sky. There used to be BIG flocks of starlings that I remember seeing coming down to roost at dusk... have not seen them in years, Meadowlarks on the wires all along the roads. No more. Kildeer used to nest on the ground in the orchard. Had to not mow while they were there.

I don't think there ever was a 'good old days' to be honest. There was definitely better music, movies and TV shows in the 70s, 80s and 90s and things were less expensive but there was a lot of homophobia in those decades too and I prefer things the way they are now.

Good movies Fun slasher pics Disco Abba Blondie Cops on tv shows (especially Charlie's Angels) unpretentious, fun tv commericals Roller skating Just Rite (local fast food restuarant, they had the best of everything on their menu) taking piano lessons summer break that was actually 3 months long When HBO was a huge deal in our household (I loved the little magazines they released every month) When The National Enquirer was not complete trash and mean-spirited When the Gap was a cool place to buy clothes When shopping malls were a cool place to hang out When there were non-chain record stores When phones were rotary, then push button When disc jockeys on radio stations were fun and liked to talk When there were only 2 gendersDrive-in Movie theaters now Hey, Toasted Cheese, when Lila Loomis is on her courtroom rant "Don't you people realize they're going to release a homicidal maniac on an innocent public?" --- there is one lady spectator in particular who just looks up at Lila with total boredom. Do you know which lady I am talking about?

I loooved Tower Records and would go there every Tuesday night, about an hour before they closed just to check out the new releases for the following day. Those days of idle browsing are long gone.

Sure there were. Sorry to be the bringer of bad news but there are still many homophobes and racists out there unfortunately. Sure there have been improvements but there's still a long way to go, and I'm worried we may never get there because humans suck. Especially now that people seem to be getting dumber and dumber thanks to social media and technology. There were many other great things in those times. The bad stuff was always there yeah but I was thinking of only the good parts.

I remember when someone asked a question it was because they really wanted to know the answer.
Notice how often the OPs drop a question and are never seen again in the thread even if only to acknowledge the replies.

Purely anecdotal - but I don't remember any "homophobia". I don't remember any "racism" either. In the 1970's they changed homosexuality in the DSM from "mental illness" to "normal". Wish we could cure all disease so easily - just change the definition. My cousin was gay - I'm sure it was hard to come out, and I bet he faced some name calling and bullying jokes in high school. But we didn't think anything was wrong with him, and we accepted him in the family. There was no hatred or fear because at the time, homosexuality was not thought of as doing anything wrong. I don't remember any racism either. I hope you kids realize Disney completely fabricated that "Remember the Titans" nonsense. I knew it as soon as I saw it. HEY, wait a minute! I went to high school in the early 70's and I don't remember any segregated high schools? Because there wasn't any - Kennedy ended all that 10 years earlier. So I looked up the reality of the movie on the web and sure enough, Disney made up the whole thing and made it all about racism. What a pant load. To this day kids still think that movie was "A True Story" when in fact, it was 98% hogwash.

I didn't know it either - first heard the name on one of my favorite TV specials of all-time: The Dennis Miller Millennium Special!
"We're comin' to get ya Shicklgruber, and don't worry about having only one ball, cause Uncle Sam's got balls to spare!"
Still have that show recorded on VHS tape. Too bad I don't have a VHS player anymore. LOL!
I thought it was a funny name.
Goes to show you can learn stuff from TV.
