July 2018 Security patches are out. We are at MS-DEFCON 2: Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. I will keep this thread updated as we progress through this patch cycle.

Well this didn't take long: Patch Tuesday problems abound, Server 2016 crashes, and a .Net patch goes down in flamesThe July Patch Tuesday crop teems with bugs — some of them acknowledged. Snooping patches KB 2952664 and 2976978 return. If you ever needed a good excuse for delaying patches, this month is it.
The worst thing so far is KB4340558, the July rollup updates for .NET crashes machines with an error 0x80092004 because it somehow conflicts with the last two .NET rollups. C'mon Microsoft - I thought we were past the days when you had to uninstall last month's rollup before you can install this month's rollup. Hopefully they'll pull this patch and reissue it with a fix for this behavior.

UPDATE: Effective today, on Windows 7 systems, neither the July Rollup nor the July .NET Rollup, KB 4338818 and KB 4340556, respectively, are being offered through Windows Update. In their place, the optional June previews have reappeared.
"Microsoft. The name goes on before the quality goes in."

UPDATE 07/21/2018The July .NET patches are even worse than you thinkIt’s been a banner month for Microsoft patches: www.askwoody.com/2018/the-july-net-patches-are-even-worse-than-you-think/That's one of many reasons we're at MS-DEFCON 1: Current Microsoft patches are causing havoc. Don't patch.
My employer already pushed Windows 7 July 10, 2018—KB4338818 (Monthly Rollup) to my work system. But they did not push out Security and Quality Rollup for .NET (KB 4340556). Now we know why. I have not yet installed any July updates on my home system.
