I think Harry Winks is in the best position to be that player. He's already playing for a top club under a top manager who rates him, and with Dembele in front of him who is on a slow decline and may be moved on or have his game time reduced. He's got the head start as it were. But 2 years is still a long time and who knows who can emerge by then.

I was half-hoping that Southgate would take a punt on Grealish this summer despite him only playing in the Championship. After treading water for a couple of years the lad looks like realising his potential and is the sort of player England really needs.

Well Adam Lallana is probably going to be too old but his teammate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be there. Perhaps lacks a bit if subtlety but he's a forceful midfield attacker who scores goals and then there is Loftus-Creek who was part of Southgate's squad

RLC could become a ballack/pogba or even de bruyne type player - box to box style.
We have loads of decent playmakers at age level - its pot luck which ones get the chance. there is a little lad at totenham that plays quite similar to messi but he needs to strengnthen up a bit
