I know what you're talking about OP. Some people do it ("cough cough") to draw attention to themselves or to annoy or mock someone else. It's an immature thing to do in the latter context, like an alternative way of laughing at someone. Immature people do it; I notice teenagers do it a lot. (No offense to people who cough for health related reasons, that's not what the OP is on about.)

my friend can't stop constantly coughing. I think his heart condition is part of the reason. But the main reason is everyone in his damn family but him smokes. I call him Choke-a-hantas I don't think there's a connection between the heart and coughing? That's messed up, brah if his family constantly smoke near him. Very rude and disrespectful. Hopefully he can get out of there soon. Idk they blame his condition. I don't think they tell me everything he has |

It seems like they cough purely for the sake of being an annoying piece of crap. Coughing should be rare. I can't remember the last time I legitimately required to cough. Are these people being obnoxious pricks on purpose or are they ridden with disease? Thoughts? "Cough purely for the sake of coughing". There are a plethora of medical explanations for a regular cough. My pap has COPD and it forces him to cough every few minutes or so. Worse in the mornings or if he’s moving about.

I clear my throat often because I feel a discomfort in my throat. If that makes me an annoying piece of crap, then ok. Since you look like this... 
...I'm not surprised to hear it. Personally I would think discomfort in your throat would be the least of your problems. Don't the worms in your eye create more of an issue? You should pour a little Icy Hot in there.
With you its not the cough that bothers me, but rather the smell.

Sometimes it's tourette syndrome. I worked with a guy who had it. Coughing, hacking then clearing his throat. It would seem that he had maybe a congestive issue. But when he wasn't coughing or clearing his throat, he was making weird religious based exclamations about something he read. Or yawning loudly. Or stretching and making a big sigh. Or making the loudest most exaggerated sneeze anyone could. It was literally something every 30 seconds.
Crazy part was, he was a professional voice-over talent for documentaries and translated pieces. He would go in the booth and do 3 hours of voice-over without one issue. Then come out and just make up for it with a barrage of noises. Great guy, great voice: but damn his decibel output was unreal.

Most of the piano recitals I have bookmarked on YouTube have people coughing during the music. It's annoying when you're thinking about it and just waiting for the next cough.
