I would like to see it in 3D. It's the movie that made Vincent Price a horror star and he would play mad scientists out for revenge a few more times in his career. Solid cast all around although the giggly friend is kind of annoying. It's cool to see Charles Buchinsky before he looked and sounded different and turned into Charles Bronson.
I also like Mystery of the Wax Museum from 1933 and might even prefer it except for the screwball comedy characters that seem out of place. It has a unusual color look to it and surprisingly the henchman assistant is a junkie instead of a drunk like he is in the later version. I recommend both movies though.

It's...uh... OK. Price is fine in it, indulges in his love of overacting, but I found the rest of the cast rather weak. There is little atmosphere, a key element in a horror movie--possibly because the color makes everything too verdant (as in Dr. Cyclops)? Ironically, for its much higher budget, it feels far more like a b-movie than the original, The Mystery of the Wax Museum. By the way, I was very disappointed after first seeing the original, but having now seen both of them I must admit that the '33 film is both better and has its own charm. It is more of a mystery than a horror flick, with a good amount of time devoted to the wisecracking '30s leads (as Poelzig mentioned above), but, if one accepts that, on just about every criterion Mystery is better than House. House, too, stands out as one of the weirdest pictures for director Andre De Toth's filmography--very little similarity with anything else he ever did--while Mystery perfectly fits into Michael Curtiz's filmography, especially for those early days at Warners.

I remember being really scared when Charles Bushinski's "wax" head on the shelf moved !
It was a good "just for fun" movie.

A classic horror movie. One of Vincent Price's best movies.

I found the end scene of Mystery of the Wax Museum with the kissing very.... dumb. But I do love both movies.

Strange choice of using Andre de Toth as director since he was one eyed, and could never see the 3-D effects.

Strange choice of using Andre de Toth as director since he was one eyed, and could never see the 3-D effects. He is a very strange choice. And not only that, but there's nothing in his filmography, either before or after (except maybe Dark Waters ['44]?--I've never seen it), that would cause a producer or studio to say, "Uh-huh. Yup. That one-eyed B&W western director! That's the guy we want to direct a color 3D horror film!"
