Where did you watch previous World Cup finals? Did you miss any? Any interesting stories?
Here is what I remember since 1974, when I was seven years old:
1974: I have a vague recollection of watching at least part of it during the Sunday family lunch at a restaurant.
1978: I may have missed this one, I am not sure. My father was never a football fan and I don't know if I would have taken the initiative of watching it at my age - but probably yes, because I remember discussing the World Cup at school, so I was enough of a football fan already.
1982: I am sure I watched it but I don't remember the circumstances. Probably at home.
1986: at my younger brother's birthday party. We had a TV for the adults who wanted to watch the game while the kids played.
1990: with a group of about ten or twelve friends at a barbecue at the company owned by the family of one of them. Meat, beer and football.
1994: at my parents', with extended family
1998: alone in Toronto, on a street where the Brazilian community supposedly was congregating to watch the World Cup. I was outside a bar in a crowd, watching the game on a TV inside. Needless to say, it wasn't a big street party afterwards.
2002: at home alone, early Sunday morning. I then went out to see the celebrations from not only the Brazilians but their many supporters also - the Portuguese, the Haitians and others. Funny thing is, I was wearing black gym shorts and a white Adidas shirt (because I was going to the gym afterwards) so a few people thought I was a German fan!
2006: at a bar with a friend. After Italy's victory, we went to Montreal's Little Italy to see the party. Streets were closed, huge crowds.
2010: alone at a hotel in India, struggling to stay awake due to the late hour (and also to how boring the match was)
2014: with two friends at home
2018: alone at home, planning to go afterwards where the large French community congregates, in the event of a French victory. If Croatia wins, I don't think there are enough Croatian immigrants here to close a street for partying.

1990 - Family home, hoping the old school aerial can pick up the signal. It was grainy as hell, and probably not worth it as the game was a stinker. 1994 - At School, on a Monday morning. Taped in on a long play VHS, watched it when I got home. Shocked when Baggio missed. 1998 - watched it at home. I remember watching it, but the details I don’t. 2002 - The local pub, with a group of friends. Couldn’t understand all The Brazil love. 2006 - I was on holidays, in Country NSW, and after Australia got eliminated, I sort of lost interest. Didn’t watch it, found out the result on the news that morning. 2010 - Stayed back after work to watch it, in a dingy cleaning room on an old school CRT 12inch TV. 2014 - On holidays again ! This time in Queensland. Got up early in the hotel room. 2018 - I’m taping it to watch when I get up early tomorrow. Off to bed about 4 hours before KO.....

1990 - The word Maradona comes to mind as I have very faint recollection of this WC. But I remember people talked about Maradona and I could have seen the final but I don't remember much.
1994 - I watched this world cup and do remember many things about it. Maradona was banned from it midway. Roberto Baggio's penalty miss was biggest talk about the final I think. I watched the penalty thing and was supporting Italy.
1998 - My father was mesmerised by Zidane's skills. Watched this with my extended family. I wasn't supporting either team but I remember I always disliked Brazil.
2002 - There was a new channel broadcasting this in my country. Remember the controversial wins of South Korea but this is my least favourite WC. Oliver Kahn was the main talk and if he could stop Brazil in the final was the main question. He couldn't. I watched the finals but was not very interested.
2006- Loved the final very much. Was supporting Italy. But Zidane's butthead was something that brought laughter for everyone of us who were watching it at my grandfather's house.
2010 - The world cup final that I had least interest in was 2010. I don't even recall anything about it.
2014 - Watched at my father's house with many members of my extended family. The was last time I had any soft corner for Messi. I was disgusted by him and Argentina as I wanted them to win.
2018 - Would be watching alone at home. I have got French cheescake to have during the match and will be supporting France but Croatia's victory will not hurt me either. Best WC in my lifetime even though many big teams couldn't stay alive deep into the tournament.

I vaguely remember seeing a few minutes of the 1974 final at a relative's home in Prestonpans. We were visiting the homes of several relatives and I think they were the only ones who had the TV on!
I was born in 1964 and can't remember anything about 1970 - maybe we didn't even watch it. (actually it would have been on late so probably in bed.)
All a bit hazy after 1974!
