Not really, no. If every character wields a lightsaber, it's overkill. I do think the force thing she did to get back in the ship was stupid.

Egh, possibly a missed opportunity but neither that nor her drawing herself back to the ship was distracting for me.

In the OT Leia had a few moments where she got to shine as a badass. But she never got to really use the force. Looking back, was that a missed opportunity? Do you wish she had been a lightsaber wielding badass? It would be too diverse.

He dropped the ball when he made her and Luke siblings.

To tell you the truth, no. She managed to hold her own without using the Force or wielding a lightsaber.

Yeah, the beginning of New Hope should have had Leia and Darth Vader try to force crush each other and that would have been the end of the series.

No. I actually prefer her as more of a politically savvy character. I don’t need nor do I want each character to become force wielders.

Nope, there was no time for that in the OT. But it was hinted by Luke in ROTJ that eventually she would become a Jedi too. So if Lucas ever made a sequel trilogy, Leia likely would have been a high ranked Jedi in the new Jedi Academy/Council.
It is the asshats at Disney who dropped the ball with Leia (and everything else).

When I was younger, I thought she was boring and wished she'd gotten to use Force powers and lightsabers. Got a little more grey in my hair, and started realizing how awesome she really was... still not my favorite character and I still hate how she talks to Han in FORCE AWAKENS, but overall she is pretty cool. And I think she used the Force more than people believe- I think hers was more subtle. Her resistance to all Vader & co. put her through when they had her in custody during A NEW HOPE. How she read a room so well, how she could seemingly sway/charm people into seeing things her way, and other little things throughout the trilogy. Heck, even how she seems to understand the Ewoks so much, despite not really knowing the language and how much trouble Luke, Han, & co. had later. They talked about Anakin using the Force without realizing he was doing so in PHANTOM MENACE, so it stands to reason that Leia could do much the same. Her training from Bail would have done similar things to a Jedi's training- lots of discipline, lots of learning control over your emotions and the expressions of your face, being calm under pressure, strategy, tactics, and the like.

I thought the action sequence at the start of 'The Return of the Jedi' and the later bike chase on Endor were good action showcases for her. No need to have her swinging a lightsaber as well.
