There are certain things that are not toys.
Legos will never be toys.

Teens. Around grade 7 or 8. By high school most have put away childish things to concentrate on the mysteries of the opposite sex. Boys mature later and are generally childish for longer, even into adulthood. Some grown men still 'play' with model trains, for example.
All sports are just adults playing at childish games. We even pay to watch other people play childish games and fantasize what it would be like if we got paid millions of dollars to become a professional player at baseball, or whatever sport you fancy.
So even adults retain an element of that childish obsession with play. If you can mix getting paid with playing at something you enjoy, I guess you really got it made? That's why Steve Wozniak built the first Apple - he just wanted a computer so he could play games.
So are stupid looking over-sized gloves and bats and balls for playing a game classified as "toys"?
I would say so.

If they're men, they never stop, they just move on to more expensive ones.

I think there are generational brackets of things if you will. Once you hit the end of it you notice it starts all over for those much younger than you. Video games came next for me & I was NES through SNES, uninterested in the infancy of 3D N64 & PlayStation. Movies a bit the same. Look at Star Wars... Disney really doesn't care if adults think the new ones are dumb so long as 3-17yr olds or whatever are devouring them.

I stopped playing with my G.I. Joes when I was 15. I still have 'em in a bucket somewhere. I also kept all my Star Wars and He-Man figures.

Some don't and are still playing with them in their 50s. I can't judge though 'cause I have my teddy bear collection but my teddy bears are not toys and some of them are worth a lot of money.
