Depends what class the individuals are. Safe and healthy foods cost way more money. Poor people get to eat the garbage but it’s very affordable.

It depends on Income and where you live. In Some Areas, food is cheaper I left Washington state for pennsylvania 11 months ago. and I'm shocked how much cheaper the prices are at walmart... I compared prices for just fucking generics using in store grocery pick up at 3 stores nearby in PA and 4 in Washington state brand names were about 50/50 here. only about half were cheaper than what I paid in washington state. The prices at walmart here were cheaper than another store out there called "Winco Foods" Which is where the poor people shopped. Winco keeps their prices down by being non-union, making customers bag their own groceries and also by not advertising. Here in PA, $50 would be enough for 2 people for a week. But where i was in washington state, Nope!

I am sure it will vary from person-to-person because of what you eat and how much you eat and brand name vs non-brand names etc.
but some people overeat and end up spending quite a bit more than they actually need to. like many people who are overweight don't even realize that what they eat and especially quantity are what makes them balloon up. like as a general guideline it's better to eat slightly smaller portions a bit more often than to load up on one or two big meals. I usually eat about 2-3 decent sized meals a day with some side snacks etc and I am well within normal weight at 5'7" @ 140-145lbs (ill be 39 years old in October. NOTE: on our scales I am usually around 138lbs-ish lately but I think they are a little low in comparison to the doctors and other scales I have used as I am likely somewhere in the low 140's)). or say one goes to Subway for example... I get a foot long sub but I don't eat that all at once (as that's too many calories for one meal(between the drink and foot long sub your probably looking at a ball park of 1000 calories)) but eat half of it with some Coke etc (the hell with diet soda) and then save the other half for later on. like if your young and got energy to burn you can probably get away with eating a foot long sub all at once but in general it's best to spread it out.
as far as how many calories I eat in a day... I don't actually measure it specifically but I imagine I am in the ball park of 2000-2500 calories (it's possible I could be a bit under 2000) which is about normal. but obviously, if your a very active person or have a high metabolism etc you might need or get away with eating a bit more. but if one is not that active and your loading up on 3000+ calories etc it won't be that surprising if you start to gain weight as your eating quite a bit over what your body actually needs etc. I have actually dropped some weight semi-recently as I was floating around 150lbs (if not a bit over that) for years but even here my weight was still normal (I don't think I ever cracked 160lbs+). but back when I had energy to burn, say 15-16 years old or maybe a bit beyond this etc, I was 5'7" @ 125-130lbs.
p.s. like mentioned by someone else already it's hard to go wrong with prices at Wal-Mart as they seem to be always cheaper on average than alternatives even though you can still find an occasional deal that beats Wal-Mart at a smaller grocery store but there is no way your going to beat Wal-Mart in the long run in terms of $$$ saved for groceries in general on a typical week-to-week basis as the years pass.

I typically spend around $35 - $40/week USD on groceries for myself, so $75 - $80/week USD sounds about right for two adults.
I buy the good stuff when I'm at the supermarket. I never substitute the brand name for generic, especially when it comes to chop meat and such.
